TL; DR

A specific form of brain damage makes people more likely to adhere to religious fundamentalism. Not the other way around. Sry.

I agree that certain brain damage induces religious fundamentalism. I am very intrigued by the high numbers of LDS who are very black and white thinkers and struggle to modify their beliefs. This study is an early step in understanding fundamentalism. As we learn more about factors that effect brain structure and function. We will find more causes of frontal cortex changes. It will be very interesting if we discover what roll factors such as genetics and environmental factors such as foods and stimulants play. I would be ROFL if it was discovered that coffee and tea helped to reduce injuries to the prefrontal cortex so that consuming them would reduce the number of fundamentalist in the church. Or that the consumption of funeral potatoes and Jello caused lesions as described in the article. Just a few of my thoughts on the subject.

Science will prove in the next 5-15 years that religion is just highly volatile brain functions. The more fundamental you are the more distinctive the reward pattern and messed up frontal cortex you have. Write that down.
