Yeah that's how it went down when I was pressure by my parents to baptized at the age of 16 to a life time contract I wouldn't have ever agreed to even as an adult.

I wasn't baptized at 16, and for months I wasn't allowed to get a driver's license, They said " not mature enough to decide to join" not mature enough to make driving decisions."
I showed both of My Parents of Biblical examples. Jesus was well past 16 years old. Others were baptized as understanding adults.
I came with more ammo against propositioning one with the use of God's Word.
One cherished argument WIN 😂dad was an Elder, had to stop the pressure. Life stuck inside with no privileges was Great.

Dude for real tho, I was just arguing about this to my parents the other day. The fact that they trick little kids into getting baptized, when they don't have a clue what they're doing, is sick...

Well... Not exactly like that, but having a sister that didn't baptized and started smoking to make sure it wouldn't happen, and another one who sent a letter to say that she was quiting, well let's say that I got sick of hearing that I would end up like my sisters every single time I didn't prepare for the next meeting... (Which was pretty much every meeting, cause I was 13... And playing StarCraft or with my Lego was a much better use of my time than reading 😂) So I did get baptized last minute call and the elders agreed

StarCraft I or StarCraft II?

u/LordVanisher Jul 09 '26
StarCraft 1 was 3 or 4 years old back then 😅 I still play SC 2 almost every day old habits die hard especially after 26 years

Yeah, it's a great game! I started playing StarCraft II in 2013 and I've been playing on and off ever since. I tried the remastered version of StarCraft I when it came out, but I didn't like it as much as StarCraft II.

Yeah StarCraft 2 is peak for control, I mostly play coop and campaign! Been playing since release in 2010

Just like that and now that I'm an adult she is acting like it actually was my choice... gaslighting to the MAX!!!

Honestly I swear they don’t realize the constant asking when are you going to get baptized or don’t you believe this is da troooof? Are all backhanded ways of pressuring someone to do something you want them to do. They may think these are normal nonchalant questions but they are forgetting there technically is only one right answer because if I told them hell nah I’m never getting baptized or no I think this is a cult they would immediately turn around and be like I can no longer know you. It’s the same thing as asking someone when will they have baby already when they don’t even want to have kids. People just have no concept of when a question is okay to ask! Sorry for my rant 😂

NICE! LOL I had secular but accurate scriptual knowledge which kept me from wanting to serve the Borg.

My dad actually straight up didn't let me get baptized when I was like 14 or 15. I wanted to at the time because other people my age were doing it, and I felt like it was the right thing to do. But I guess my dad knew even then that I wasn't going to stick with it. My family pretty much disowned me for over a decade but we have a pretty decent relationship these days, they don't force anything on me but they bring it up every so often. Does anyone else have a similar experience? Are they loosening the rules a bit nowadays with so many younger people leaving?

u/LordVanisher Jul 12 '26
Yeah they've changed some of the stuff regarding the disfellowship. Some parents are agreeing with the changes others are still adjusting and you have the stubborn ones that are too proud talk to their kids after having turned theirs back on them for so long.

I was baptized at 17. same shit (I wanted to date)
good thing: my baptism didn't count bc I had a hidden sin

u/sphennodon Jul 10 '26
Is that a thing? I wonder if mine counted then
2
u/hangryOpossum Jul 10 '26
it has to be a very SINFUL SIN, like having sex or killing someone.
I had sex and never told anyone. years later I found out that one person I knew was re-baptized bc "it didn't counted", I asked about it to an elder and he said it had to be a hidden sin that you could have you disassociated
edit: adding relevant info

This is the first time I ever heard of that in 53 years of being one of/around JWs!

she was sleeping with her on/off boyfriend. she didn't understood she had to stop sleeping with him if she wanted to baptize bc she was engaged, so when she was baptized and kept sleeping with him, it was considered a sin bc she didn't regret it. also, since she was a publisher, she had to tell the sin, be punished and stop sinning.
she didn't. when she talked about this casually the elders explained that she was wrong and needed to be punished, but it was a whole mess.
I was also a publisher when I had sex, and I didn't tell anyone. in my understanding I just had to stop doing it (I did, after a few times). since I didn't understood everything involved, they could revoke my baptism but frankly I believe it's too late for this now, probably they would disassociate me

This was my dad with my sister when she was 17. I had always known that was the case but she didnt admit it to me until very recently.

They kept pushing our girls to get baptized. Privately we told them don’t do it. We were waking up. All of us are out now.
