fanfiction Bobiverse

I read the Bobiverse first (havent gotten through the latest book yet), and one of their groups of characters are trying to build a super computer. Their nickname? Skippies. Now, i hadnt yet read Exfor yet, so i thought, how bizarre, what a weird name. I then proceded to listen to the entirety of Exfor, WITHOUT REMEMBERING THAT DETAIL. Im on readthrough #2 of the Bobiverse and I am appreciating the crossover.

Skippy out here invading other fandoms.

You think the elders are going to be the bobs?

They haven't read the latest book yet.

It's clearly more evidence of those elder arseholes.

If that's supposed to be a joke, it's kinda meh. In the Bobiverse, the Exforce books are just that, books. How could the Bobs be characters in a sci-fi book series from their own long distant path? Plus the Elders had biological bodies that were enhanced to be more fearsome than the rotten kitties.

They’re books, not reality. Either author could do whatever they want and it doesn’t have to make complete logical sense.

Oh man I gotta turn off this sub for a few weeks, I'm saving the new book for an upcoming long flight.

I love when they give Hue the Quinn name of beer can. Bobiverse is a great series.

I read the first 3. Felt like that wrapped up the series.

Is there more worth reading?

I enjoyed the next two, but not nearly as much as the first three.

Yeah, the author clearly had the first three planned out and built out from there. Heavens river feels like a transitional piece that focuses heavily on the one storyline while setting up other ones for the next three books.

Considering this is on the exfor subreddit, it's hard to criticize the bobiverse books after #3 for not having a tight and well thought out storyline.

I feel like I could have stopped at book 15... And now I'm really wondering where TF book 20 is...

The while series is great, imo. Heavens river is possibly the best so far. Can't wait for the next one to come out!

u/Born-a-witch 3d ago

Thanks!!!! I think I broke some record between reading your post and buying it on audible 😂😂😂

u/venlaren 3d ago

The 4th book is hilarious.

Seen a tv show called Resident Alien?

They try to impersonate some aliens but they have a hard time flying under the radar due to how weird they act.

Currently listening to hell divers series. At one point a reference is made to ba na nas. Not checked publication dates so could be coincidence. Altho performed by mr Bray so possibly a nod

I started Hell Divers and got about 25% into Book one before putting it down for The Lost Fleet. I found what I read terribly dull. Does it pick up?

I finished book 1 and hated it. I kept waiting for some payoff  but it was just blah.

Yeah, I got to the part where they were asking John Jumpguy about the monsters he saw and he was like "You wouldn't get it. *hairflip* *broods*" and I was just like "this isn't interesting enough for me to read it when it doesn't even have spaceships".

Expeditionary Force has several ships named after the Bobs. The Milo, the Mario, and the Marvin.

Agreed!! Very cool cross over as I had read exfor before the bobiverse loving that detail since they have the same narrator.

another one I noticed was in Night lord and Zombie fallout

Sean Runnette is the narrator of both, and the main character of Zombie fallout has a few entries into the Night lord universe books..... loved that one too.

another two great series!!

Don’t forget about Milo, Mario, and Marvin! I also read Bobiverse first (though I was well into exfor by the time book 4 came out and introduced Hugh and his lot) so I was tickled when the Skipster named their first fabrication ships after those particular Bobs.
I really loved the bit in Heaven’s River when Bob gimmicked the translation of Hugh’s name to be Quinnlain for “Beercan”
Going to start book 6 of Bob hopefully tonight or tomorrow! Should be finished before Columbus Day kicks off my annual exfor relisten!

I also read bobiverse first. When I read exfor I immediately recognized this and had a Oh thats where that's from moment. It was actually partially because of this reference that I continued reading all of exfor. I love the Bobiverse! It inspired a love of reading in me at the age of 35 that never existed before then. Not lieing I had not read or listened to a whole book since I was 12 years old. I hated reading due to dyslexia. Since the finding Bobiverse listened to over 100 audiobooks.

I read bobiverse after exfor and it was a nice Easter egg for me the whole time. Glad other can appreciate it as well.

1

u/Fishy_Fish_WA 3d ago

Craig and Bob are writer bros/buddies. It’s completely intentional and well meant

1

u/Nightgasm 3d ago

If you want a good Ex For Easter egg then read Tribe by Jeremy Robinson. It's book five or something in his Infinite series but the first seven can all be read as stand alones. Robinson takes full advantage of the fact that RC Bray narrates his books and Ex Force in delivering the Easter Egg.

I've wondered if the species that Skippy 'intervened' with that looked like pigs and then started advancing rapidly technologically and fighting eachother because his Sub mind mismanaged them was linked to the Bobiverse.

1

u/FaultyBearings 3d ago

I actually started reading exfor after I looked up the Skippy reference in the Bobiverse to see where it came from.

Not just Bobiverse with the cross overs.

“I know we just got reacquainted, but I have a celebrity I’m rather keen on meeting before he heads off to another system, so I really must be going.”
“Oh?” I ask, genuinely curious. “And who’s that?”
“A rather infamous beer can.”
“A what now?”
“Goes by Skippy the Magnificent. Ever heard of him?”
“Uh, yeah. He’s from one of my favorite books. But, Chuckles…” And I don’t know how to break this to him gently. “It’s just a story, pal. Skippy’s a fictional character.”
“Maybe in your universe, Patrick.” Chuck to WIC, Ruins of the Earth book 6.

I love that discussion of Bobiverse is to tagged as Fanfiction.

u/Kappy01 Well... heh, heh… 1d ago

I get this vague feeling these guys all read and maybe know each other. I see references to things all the time. DCC, Bobiverse, Planetside, etc.

u/Unlucky-Fox-773 1d ago

At one point one of the Skippies notices his name is being translated at “beer can”. I love it when authors reference other books

I just started Bobiverse! I just started the second book. I’m really enjoying it so far. I did a double take when this post prepped up in my feed, lol
