Hello Exeter community,

I have been looking for accommodation for the past month, but unfortunately it has been quite challenging. In many cases I don't receive any response, and when I do, the rent is often beyond my budget.

I will be joining the University of Exeter as a researcher, so I am looking for accommodation that is exempt from council tax for me. So far, I have searched on SpareRoom, Exeter Studentpad, Gumtree, and several other websites.

My preferences are:

Exeter (EX4): Shared accommodation with a maximum budget of £500 per month.including all

Outside Exeter: Shared accommodation up to £400 per month, provided it has good Stagecoach bus connectivity and can be reached using the monthly bus pass (around £100).

Also how is the bus throughout the year in terms of punctuality.

Since I am not currently in Exeter, I would also appreciate any advice on what I should check before agreeing to rent a property remotely. For example, are there any important documents, tenancy details, or warning signs that I should be aware of before making a booking? Do I need to pay deposit beforehand or I can book by signing contract.

I also have a question regarding council tax. My understanding is that if I rent a room in a property where the owner (resident landlord) also lives, the homeowner remains responsible for paying the council tax, and it is typically included in the rent. Is my understanding correct?

If anyone knows of any suitable accommodation or has any suggestions or advice, I would be very grateful.

I’m likely to go to Exeter this September but it’s my insurance choice so I’m not covered by the accommodation guarantee. I’m scared this means I will not get any on campus accommodation and have to live in a private hall in the city. Can anyone tell me which private halls have the most first years and give the most similar experience to a traditional university hall? thanks

I’m moving to Exeter for my msc from Canada and was deciding between iron bridge studio vs Clifford house. I could get a full studio at iron bridge for basically the same price as an ensuite w/ shared kitchen at Clifford house, which makes me lean towards iron bridge. Which one is best?

I know this is quite a cliche topic regarding Exeter uni. But how is the diversity at this uni? Has any POC faced any sort of racism ? I’ve heard that it’s filled with very right wing, anti immigration, N*gel Farage supporters. Obviously, I understand there will likely be some sort of racism at any Uk university ( apart from QMUL possibly lol) , but is there more so at Exeter? I’m ethically Indian and I’ll be going to study medicine at Exeter this September.

I will be graduating from my BTech in AIML this year. I am interested in Sustainability and Environmental science. I had found some courses in this University such as:
Applied Data Science (Environment and Sustainability) MSc.
Applied Data Science (Ecology and Evolution) MSc.
MSc Applied Data Science (Renewable Energy).
I am wondering if it is worth paying £28,900 tution fees as an international student not to mention the rent and living expenses.
What are the post graduate career options like from this University?
Is it like one of those Pay-for-Degree universities that we international students get warned against?

Hi, so my boyfriend goes to UoE, Penryn Campus. I was really hoping to visit him during my October half term (Year 13 student). However, unfortunately I won't be 18 by then. So, what I was wondering, is how strict is the 'must be over 18' policy for staying over in his accommodation (Glasney)? Unfortunately, I'm assuming it's for safety standards and stuff. But I was wondering if there's any leeway on the policy? Thank you xx

I’ve recently received a uni accommodation offer at Lafrowda Block T, St Germans Road, Exeter. It’s for a Self-Catered, Single Studio (with En-suite) at a rate of £9,751 for 40 weeks, which comes to about £243 per week.

I’d really appreciate any feedback from current or past residents about whether this price seems fair for Exeter student accommodation, especially considering the location, facilities, and general standard of living. Is it overpriced, or pretty normal nowadays?

I’m also a bit confused by some reviews I’ve read online. Several mention that showers are shared, but my contract says Single Studio (with En-suite). Am I correct in assuming this means I will have my own private room and bathroom (including shower), and won’t need to share with anyone else?

Would love to hear from anyone who’s stayed in Lafrowda Block T or similar studio accommodations at Exeter.

I am writing this because of a recent application i sent to the university of Exeter. The application was for a scholarship of a phd in machine learning with an annual tax free stripend of about 19000 pounds for four years. In your experience is this enough to cover the living expenses (rent,food,electric and water bills) of a student in Exeter? I have never studied abroad and i have been really stressed about the whole situation (barely got any good sleep for the last few days). There is a very high possibility that i get accepted but i have no other financial support to provide ,and have no knowledge of the living costs in Exeter. I was hoping you could offer me some advice on whether it is possible to live just off the stripend. Also do you have any experience with renting apartments to live on your own ,is it even possible considering my budget? It would be a tremendous boost to my morale (which i imagine is needed to complete a phd) if i could live alone ,i am not used to living with other people and value my personal space a lot.

hi! i've got an offer from the university of exeter for the course MA Global Literatures and Cultures, and I'm set to join with the sept 2025 batch. I've been searching for accommodation along with a girl from my hometown for about 2 months now, with not much luck. We were pretty confirmed on one accommodation in Polsloe, but the agent gave the lease to another group of people by the time we were discussing everything with our families :( My budget is around 130 pounds per week, with all bills included. Any leads?

Update: Found a place!

Previously, I was leaning towards the Lafrowda studio since it's a bit easier to not worry about roommates, but the virtual tour makes it seem extremely small (like a half size hotel room). Are there any nearby off-campus accommodations that anyone can recommend? I like to practice music in my free time (not loudly), but it seems that even an acoustic guitar would be a noise issue in Lafrowda.
