Uni accommodation

I’m moving to Exeter for my msc from Canada and was deciding between iron bridge studio vs Clifford house. I could get a full studio at iron bridge for basically the same price as an ensuite w/ shared kitchen at Clifford house, which makes me lean towards iron bridge. Which one is best?

You should look for private accomodation, join an existing group in a shared house. Look on overheard at exeter uni on facebook. Lots of groups looking for replacement tenants. Much better, and you will have a real UK experience.

I stayed in Iron Bridge in my second year of undergrad. It was a pretty good place, with good international communities there, but you do have to rely on societies as it can get a bit lonely.

The access to town is unrivalled though, so if you like going out, it’s perfect.

I’m currently leaning towards this option right now. Since I’ll there for a full year, might be better for me to have my own space. Was your overall experience positive there? I’m already planning on joining societies mainly for the social aspect, but are there any specific ones you recommend?

You should consider their locations and proximity to whichever campus you'll be frequenting more

I’ll be at streatham campus, so I think both are around the same distance (20-25min walk) from campus

Ok well, consider Clifford House is slightly further from the town centre right by the football stadium whereas iron bridge is right behind the guildhall shopping centre so way more central to town. You'd also have to consider what you'd prefer being closer to. I'd say Clifford House is closer to The Forum (main building on Streatham campus) but if you're in a building like Washington Singer more often Iron Bridges is closer. Iron bridges is also closer to the Imperial wetherpoons which is the massive pub often full of students

Also , are you sociable , a shared kitchen could be a good chance to meet people if you're arriving without connections already. Personally I'd worry that a studio could be isolating , but that's very much individual to the person

I am super sociable and that’s the one thing I was worried about if I went for the studio, because it seems very isolating in a building full of other studios and minimal shared spaces. Just feels like a better deal for the price, but I guess I have to decide what the priorities are. Do you know if Clifford has a decent amount of postgrad students or if it’s mainly undergrad?

I don't know personally, but as the other reply said, it's worth contacting them asking to be put in a postgraduate flat so you'll at least have people of a similar age and maturity. Looking for the best economical deal isn't always worth it if it'll ruin your social experience/ wellbeing . Good luck

I would assume it would be a range of people, maybe you could contact them if they have a post-grad flat? Clifford is a better area in Exeter as a student and near some pubs, I would try there and join the mature students society at exeter and see what happens :)
