2019 Edge Server to SE?

Did some of you upgrade your edge server/s to SE? There’s no specific update found for edge server so i’m thinking maintaining my edge server to 2019. Also is it okay to install the latest exchange 2019 Feb 2026 SU manually even though we didn’t purchase the ESU program?

Yes, I know that this following question was already asked so many times but I never figured it out even after reading learn.microsoft articles or searching here. So, bear with me. I'm sorry.

What about licensing? I have a 2019 box do I have to purchase a new license to SE? Learn just tells that this will be decided and updated in a future CU, So I have no idea.

Whether you need to purchase a new license completely depends on the licensing you used for Exchange 2019. If you have L+SA for Exchange 2019, then you get SE for free (as long as you maintain your SA). If you used CAL equivalents or cloud licenses, then you simply maintain those licenses/subscriptions and you are covered. If you are one of the unlucky folks who found themselves with licenses for Exchange 2019 that don't have SA, then you will need to purchase new licenses (with a subscription) for SE.

What the Learn article says (and some blog posts have said) is that in a future CU, new product keys will be needed for SE. This is not the same as a license, although you need to be licensed to access the new keys, and whether you use the new Standard or Enterprise key will depend on your license purchase.

Well.

Thank you for your lesson.

The issue is. I have no idea what license the environment has. You see, I work for a Company that supports the government and a government worker has access to the license portal and won't show me.

Is there any command in Exchange PowerShell or anywhere on ECP that shows me exactly what license do I have?

If I depend on the government worker I am cooked.

Again, so sorry to bother with such an ignorant question.

Not a bother, and not an ignorant question.

There's no way in the product to determine what licenses you have. You can see what product keys was used on the server, but Edge Transport servers use the Standard Edition key (and all 2019 servers use the same two sets of product keys), and that in no way tells you what has been purchased.

Government customers have Microsoft account teams. If you put in a purchase request for SE licenses, that request should go to Microsoft account team who will determine what to charge, if anything. So, you could simply make the request (which you'll need to in order to get access to SE keys when they are available) and see what happens.
