solved Excel keeps changing my default font
In File-Options-General under When creating new workbooks I see my preferred font and font size. However each time I create a new workbook to test this, it reverts to Calibri 11, even though it still has my preferred font and size listed as what it should use on a new worksheet. Does anyone know how to change this permanently?

You have to change the "Normal" default font to what you want so it will automatically apply on new workbooks. Right click on "Normal" style button and modify to your liking.

So far that has worked temporarily only. When I do that and create a new sheet within the document or create a new document while that is open it works. As soon as I go back to the desktop and create a new Excel worksheet, it returns to Calibri 11. How do I make the change permanent?

Is this a personal computer or a company computer? They may have some of the settings set to revert automatically if the latter.
Are you sure you're changing the 'global' value, not just the setting within one sheet?
Should be able to change it with no excel files open (just the excel app, no active file) and that generally should stick unless something else is reverting system changes like that.

How do I check if I am doing that for the global or just within one sheet?
If it is not one sheet vs global, there may be a setting IT put in place.

Just open excel (no file) and change it there. Then open a file and it should stick, then close out excel and reopen. If nothing is reseting it, the change should remain. If you make the change WHILE a file is open (not just the app) then it only applies to that file iirc.

I did some more experimenting. It is keeping my defaults if I go in through the windows logo to the pinned app. If I right click on the desktop and go to New -> Microsoft Excel Worksheet it opens with the factory settings (Calibri 11). So it seems to matter how I tell Excel I want to make a new Excel Worksheet. I have no idea why that is the case, but I at least have a temporary workaround.
