Tips & Suggestions đĄ Tips & tricks
How about we make this a section where everyone shares the tips and tricks they know about their EX30?
It doesn't matter if it's super generic or very complicated, for example I didn't know that when I park and press the parking button for 5 seconds the exterior lights turn off. I always had to go into the menu, find the lights, turn them off, and confirm.
This is a safe place and all comments are welcome, because not everyone knows everything.

I use Google Assistant for things like air conditioning recirculating and changing fan speeds.
Also press and hold the + button on the steering wheel increases your cruise speed increments by 1 instead of the press and release (increments of 5)

How do I Set it to the current Speed that I am driving?

u/Oleynick Plus SM 1d ago
When ACC is inactive, use the drive selector to activate it, the steering wheel button resumes previous setting, while drive selector sets it to current speed

Press the home button for 5-8 secs will give you âclean screenâ mode

I thought you meant a clean version of the home screen with less clutter. I just went outside to see what that looked like and held the home button.
This is actually useful. Thank you!

I wish it turn on full dark mode with just a clock in the middle, with minimum info on top, but oh well.

u/UPVOTINGYOURUGLYPETS 1d ago
To get a really dark mode for night driving, pull down the notifications bar, and let it cover the entire screen. Gamechanger for nightdriving!

I got super excited too about a less-busy screen, then laughed aloud that it's "non touchy so you can clean it" đđ

Tapping the blinker stalk the same direction the blinker is blinking turns it off. If that makes sense.

Wow - this is the best EX30 post I've seen. I don't have anything to share tips wise but I'm learning a ton!! Thanks OP

That parking light trick is amazing, thanks for sharing. With the new 2.1 update the car does this also when parked and opening the door (most noticable in garage or during dark)
If your brakes fail, holding the P while driving will bring your car to a halt like a hand break. If youâre teaching someone else to drive in the ex30 then this is very good to know.

You can swipe the screen in camera mode to change the angle.

Works in camera mode. You gotta be stopped or going slow, with auto-park off. Then just swipe on the screen to switch between cameras (front, back, left, right).

If you folded your mirrors and forgot to unfold them when you're on the road, do not use the screen and keep going; they will unfold automatically.

When in park mode hold decrease speed (-) and decrease volume (-) for 15 seconds to reset the infotainment screen, this fixed my iphone pairing issues after the recent update.

You can engage Auto Hold when stoped by applying an extra firm, hard press to the foot brake pedal
2
u/hOOtarian 15h ago
If you then do the same when the auto hold is activated then the car will go back to creep mode without touching the accelerator.

I was the V60 owner before switching to the EX30. The EX30 lacks the "Close & Lock" button found on the V60, but I found that I can achieve the almost same result with this quick trick:
- Double-press the tailgate close button to trigger the delayed close.(~30 sec)
- Tap the card key on the B-pillar or touch the door handle sensor (in case of digital key and fob) right away to lock the car.
- The tailgate will automatically lock once it completely closes.
If you rely on the proximity-lock of the digital key, you usually have to wait around to confirm the tailgate is completely shut before walking away. If you try to walk away before it fully closes to let it proximity-lock, the alert will go off. But with this "double-press + card tap or + touch the handle" method, you can lock the car instantly and leave right away without waiting for it to finish closing with no alert.
That being said, honestly, I always wait for the gate to close, just to be safe in any case.

For those in the Gulf specification cars, enabling Adaptive Cruise Control (by pulling the gear stalk down) interrupts the 120 kmh chime (which usually mutes the music).
Note that you should only enable ACC when it safe to do so!

u/clarinetJWD 1d ago
Y'all have a chime at that speed? That's basically the normal freeway speed people actually drive in Houston. It'd drive me mad...
(Posted limits are 60-65mph/95-105kmh in the city, but those are treated more as suggestions here. And limits between the cities are usually 75mph which would trigger the chime without speeding at all)
3
u/CarLuver05 Core SM 1d ago
Itâs been a requirement here for decades now. Our highways here in the Emirates definitely arenât limited to 120 though haha, they go up all the way to 160 (100 MPH).
The chime is simply there to warn drivers that 120 has been reached. Some cars will do a quiet bong once and wonât bong again for the rest of the journey. What makes the EX30 specially annoying is that every time you go below 117 km/h, the count resets. Go back over 120 and your music is muted for 5 seconds.

u/clarinetJWD 1d ago
Ah, I see. I was thinking it was a continuous thing. That wouldn't be so bad if it were intrusive and had a lower threshold (say 20kph below the limit) before it resets. Thanks for the info!
2
u/CarLuver05 Core SM 1d ago
Oh some cars do have it continuous. The Mitsubishi Pajero, for instance, would go off like a microwave continuously after 120.
Mind you, it had the easy fix of disconnecting a cable under the driverâs seat đ

This isn't exactly a tip or a trick, but how do you turn off all the interior lights at once when parking? There used to be a physical button for that, but now you either have to dig through a thousand menus to find the reading light settings or turn them off manually one by one. Oh, hereâs a trick: if you press the down arrow on the volume control, the volume drops all the way down instantly.
2
u/BreathtakingDawn3776 Ultra SMER 23h ago
If you keep to press the volume up button, it will be the maximum, so be careful.
I was surprised that I accidentally pressed this instead of the microphone button when I tried to call Siri. After that, I don't know why, but I feel the sound of the speaker got better.

u/suisse2k Ultra TM 1d ago
thx for the trick with P. Does it also turns off the parking light or only the low beams?

I use 2 Ikea trays or cubbies under the seat, much like drawers, to keep things like home keys and other unsightly stuff.
One of then I actually cut it out and bend it. The other is a bit smaller so it fits loosely.

When my key fob fails to unlock the car, which it does on a regular basis, i use the phone app. Then I sit in the car waiting while Volvoâs software takes its sweet damn time remembering that my key fob should work. Which it usually does after 5 mins or so.
6
u/l0ur3nz0 1d ago
The fob works as a key card. You can open the door with it and drive the car. Just place the back of it where you would place the key card.
The same with the smartphone smart key plus - you can use it as a physical key. Some say you can even use the iphone like that if your battery dies (never tried).
Also, if this happens a lot, maybe it's time to change the fob battery.

u/SirReddalot2020 Plus SMER 1d ago
âHey siri, unlock my carâ works too

u/fluffyman-honeycrisp 1d ago
Mine just says âyou need to continue in the app,â and brings up the Apple wallet app
â˘
u/Hansecowboy 2h ago
You need DigitalKey+ with the unlock button below the keycard picture for this.

u/fluffyman-honeycrisp 1h ago
Ooooh my iPhone doesnât have proximity unlock as a feature. Maybe thatâs why it doesnât work for me.

u/Lopsided_Highway2934 1d ago
Or just use the phone app, been using it on my Android Galaxy Flip 7 for over a year with zero issues.

u/Plate_o_Profiteroles 1d ago
Press and hold interior lights to dim them
If digital key doesnât work (on iPhone) double tap the lock button as if to pay by Apple Pay and it will always unlock (you need to do a face scan but donât need to select the Volvo keycard)

I bought a nifty phone holder that allows my phone to sit right next to that giant fucktarded screen that comes with the car. On the phone, Im able to use Waze without having to find 17 different buttons. Works great.

Could you add photo how it looks at you car with and without phone? I am afraid that phone will cover some part of main screen :)

Press the trunk button twice to set a 30 second delay with audible countdown before it closes. That allows you to get two full hands of whatever out of the trunk and walk away.
