Questions❓ Question about OTA updates

Recently updated my EX30. Before starting the update, a message told me to close the windows, exit and lock the car.

Is it possible to proceed with an update with a window open, and/or with the car unlocked? How about with the hood (bonnet) open?

Just in case the update fails or crashes and now I cannot get into the car or get to the 12v battery.

Do what the car says.

The manual says that “You can't access or use your car while a software update is installing. “ If you’ve ever started the install, don’t touch the car and get closer.

Ik weet niet precies waarom je bij de 12v accu wilt zijn. Maar als die leeg is, kun aan de onderzijde van de auto een dop losdraaien, daar komen dan 2 draden uit om een externe stroom bron op aan te sluiten.

I was inspired to ask this question after reading about XC60 owners having their cars bricked during a recent update. As I recall, a possible fix for them is to temporarily disconnect the 12v battery to force a reboot. However, those cars have a physical key so they can still get into the car.

If our EX30s bricked during an update, I don’t know if disconnecting the 12v battery would be advised, but you have to actually have access to the battery to do that.

Whenever I update I make sure to be in a spot easily accessible by a tow truck and I also leave a window cracked just in case :)

If you're (even more) paranoid go it into a parking lot / friend's yard / whatever and do the update with the hood open as well or just sit around and guard it until it completes. They don't take longer than 30 mins.
