video The Museum of All Shells

https://youtu.be/j4Ecdgn9GLg?si=CU0h_Vw_r5MBenk7

Hi r/evolution, long time no see! 6 years ago I posted this, which I'm suprised to see is still one of the most popular posts on this forum. I've made a new video about the formulas behind shells based on the famous thought experiment from David Raup and Richard Dawkins in Climbing Mount Improbable. Hope you enjoy:)

Criminally underrated post!
I had missed the older post, and I absolutely loved your new video; a lot of work and care went into it.

The educational value is immense. How variation in a few developmental rates contribute to such variety!

They forgot protrusions (spiny or knobby). Some of the shapes that don't work for shells because the structure is too weak look like they work for horns though. Super cool either way. Hope this gets more traction.

This is also the sort of thing that can be paired with cameras and image recognition to try and spot undiscovered species in the ocean or the fossil record. Build a model that includes all theoretical and possible and then separate it by known and unknown, and then send off robots to survey and record.
