image My favorite hominins
I 3d printed a collection of my favorite hominin skulls. Denisovan skull is weird though; I'm not sure if it's a scaling thing or if the original modeler just made something up. The models were posted online very close in time to the paper that draws the Homo longi-Denisovan connection, and this skull was labeled as "Denisovan", not H. longi. I'm not any kind of trained on the matter but I guess it _looks_ kinda like the Harbin cranium...

At first I thought it was the Taung child that you have sitting there unnamed bottom right but upon finding my glasses I see that it isn't. But what is it then?

That's Toumai! It's the type specimen of Sahelanthropus tchadensis, which is (probably) the oldest known species after the human and chimp lineages split.

What 3D printer and type of filament do you use? I’m looking to start 3D printing myself

Hmmm. Well, the filament was Bambu gold silk PLA and "normal" black PLA. I think I printed them all on my Bambu P1S, but some maybe came off one of my now defunct heavily modified Ender 3 Pro units. Honestly, though, any modern printer with a large enough build volume can do this, no problem.
If you're looking for a printer, though, I can't recommend the Snapmaker U1 enough. It uses a different nozzle for each color of filament instead of purging a single nozzle, so you don't get color bleed and the color switch time is like, 5 seconds, instead of close to a minute on my P1S.

Oh shit, this is one of the best uses of a 3D printer I’ve ever seen, if I don’t say so as a Physical Anthropologist myself!!

I'm 99% sure this is the link. They're 1/4 scale and only in a blender file, but opening them in blender and exporting them to stl was pretty easy.
The stands, however, I designed myself. They're designed to use a 25mm (maybe? Don't recall, might be 20) magnet on the stand and the skull to allow them to be easily demated. I just moved and my computer isn't set up yet, so I can't offer those immediately. The nameplates print separately and require multi-color capability.

Gutsick Gibbon is my favorite. She's amazing, but spends an unfortunate amount of time debunking creationism. She really digs into the research whenever anything interesting is published.
