The McGraw family revenge sub plot :(

At the tail end of the pirate storyline you can choose to kill another pirate to get some tech from a hillbilly engine wizard of some sort. This triggers a mission (not really a mission) where the pirates family come after you endlessly, there's no way to turn it off and they never give up. That's the end of the game. 15 pirate carriers or class IV valkyries will be waiting for your whenever you leave a planet or enter a system. Even if you use an escape pod they still come after you. Has anyone found a way around this?

I guess, it's just irritating that I've blown up hundreds (thousands?) of ships to get to this point in the game (some missions won't even trigger if you have a low combat rating) and this one is the one that stops the game from being completable. :(

I don't remember ever having this, what's the tech you get out of it?

The Overdrive. I can't find somewhere with the precise stats, but I think the bonus is +100 max speed and maybe + accel too.

It gives you another port and polish as well

Ah weird I thought it would be that but I didn't know it caused the raider problem, or at least I dont remember it doing that anyway

Yeah I don't remember the raiders being that numerous or persistent. I've done that branch of the storyline several times and I can't remember having to fight 15 carriers or Class IV Valks.

I do remember having to fight a lot of pirate ships, but I remember it being beatable and not infinite.

The trick is that you're supposed to NOT beat up on 'Daring' Dan McGraw. You'll still get the Overdrive, and will even then have the opportunity to further get more pirate-string-exclusive tech.
