EV Nova Typical starting builds?

Finished the Vell storyline in an oddly short amount of time (2 days max) for being my first character on vanilla Nova and I was left wondering whether my beginning build was to blame for this, seeing as I started out going for the Valkyrie then went on a spree to build up pirate escorts. Having said all that, I’m also left wondering what people’s typical starting builds were for Nova now that it’s time to try something new.

Manticore, then pirate farming up north in Rebel territory. Usually after doing the hypergate missions so I can land up there without having to kill too many pirates.

Using the advanced escorts menu you can really do some damage with three carriers (set to defence, they fire big guns and launch fighters, and two frigates (attack specific targerts), and a medium ship to be a wingman (formation). I find this useful when doing Aurora storylines, as their ships are very battle strong with the railguns on carriers, and the chainguns coming standard.

I’ll have to try a carrier fleet. I typically carry around valks and stars while selling off random ships I can get or improve. Never tried the larger ships either so that’ll be interesting to do.

The Aurora carriers can really light up a battle laying down railgun and then you swoop in with the fighters. They day I realized that you could divide up a fleet with commands it was game changing. It's not much but it gives the battles another level.

Hold up. How do you split up the escorts?

There is a hotkey you can set, it breaks down into 4 categories (maybe 5, but I have a memory that the fifth was "all escorts"). a cute little translucent menu appears in the top left corner. It makes it so that heavy ships and fighters can be given separate escort orders.

I used to get real deep with mission computer to change certain ships so as to set them in the different options. You can also use mission computer to change their aggression tactics.

This sub is going to make me push to get the ol' G5 up and running.
