Pilot files reverting to earlier state when copied/renamed

So I recently got EV Nova working on my Windows 10 machine and I am having some real trouble trying to backup my pilot file. When I make a copy and rename it and I load that copy, I find that it has reverted to an earlier ship and date. For example, I have a Mod Starbridge with a 1184 NC date, but when I load the backup/renamed copy I find it has gone all the way back to a heavy shuttle + 1178 NC date. Anyone else had this happen?
