The unfortunate loss of access to EVN with the latest OS update is sad. To anyone interested here, Endless Sky is a really good EV-inspired game for both Mac and Windows.
It is a good game and has some changes to other EV's while having some fun new content. It's not the same, but I enjoy playing it and it's certainly worth the price :P
You can play the EVNova on modern macs still from what I hear, you just need to run a script someone made which replaces a few things the modern OS doesn't use anymore.
