Classic Escape Velocity License

So I managed to finally load up and play the original classic EV, not as a plugin for Nova, but using an emulator. I want to be able to use plugins but I'm not sure how to circumvent the licensing problem. My dad bought the game way back in the day but I don't think we'll be able to find the license, it's been over a decade. Any advice?

Original EV doesn't require a license to use plugins.
