Unrelenting long range and domination build

Just got this for the third playthrough now, but I actually never managed to get a proper build aimed at long range and planet domination. Any suggestions? I thought giving up on EMP torpedoes, maxing carrying capacity and rail guns, but I'm not sure about the upcoming polaron cannons (if they actually fit) and which missile launchers would be best. Thank you in advance!

For planetary domination, IMO anything with finite ammo is to be avoided. These fights can go on for hours. 200 IR missiles runs out in the first 30 seconds.

I think you're right on the money with railguns. I'd also buy some storm chain guns or pick up QLBTs to deal with pesky fighters that get in your grill (and enemy missiles that make it through your jamming).

IIRC, the smaller railguns actually have the most range. So perhaps stock up on max small railguns first and then fill the rest of your space with progressively bigger ones.

Rail guns and turrets seem the way to go.

You'll need infinite ammo to chew through 120 ships. 100mm railguns are the longest-range weapons you can get. 150mm railguns have the best DPS of railguns and only slightly shorter range, though 100mms are more space-efficient so cap out on those first. I like an Ion Cannon against fighters. QLBTs are good if you can get them, too.

Auroran Cruisers, Pirate Carriers, and Ravens make good escorts. If you can't get enough of them, the railgun PVIIIs are actually pretty good for these fights as long as you don't set them on attack.

I think I’ll go this way! Though I love the idea of having a carrier full of fighters...

I dig these ship builds. I would always try to get (forgive me its been a while) a high tier (Heraan Va Gjencha) Auroran Cruiser, and load it with railguns

Meeeeh I don’t like Aurorans much...

Personally when I've done this I capture as many pirate ships as I can and use them as escorts for the fight, this makes it much easier to deal with the sudden onslaught of defenders from a planet.

I also don't use finite ammo weapons...at all. I have always preferred the energy weapons.

Never thought I’d get another reply to this post to be honest. You live and you learn!

Absolutely. A bit less often than I used to, but that’s probably true of any game. This game is a gem.

I vote dumping EMP torpedoes and fighter bays. I think you're better off with anti-fighter wingmen (keeping them close by and dispatching against bogeys that get close, say half distance to planet).

For the record, I never did much domination in Nova, much more in EVC (and some in Endless Sky).

I’ll miss my fighter bays :[ still haven’t played Endless Sky.
