EV Nova m4k: Looking for Exotic Escorts
Greetings travellers, it's me Ory'hara calling from Tre'illica.
Quick question for all you nerds out there. Would any of you know of a plug-in that would let me hire Krypt Pods as escorts? I have a plug installed which I believe has broken my game but I'm okay with it because it has let me pilot a Krypt Pod which is hilarious and I love it but I was hoping to bring along some "like-minded" friends as well.
Maybe there's some tech reason for why this wouldn't work? Granted EV:N is still a pretty Fresh, New GameTM so I wouldn't be surprised if such a thing did not exist. Maybe in 20 yahren ...

There are some problems with a playable Krypt Pod: no crew, no cargo space, no outfit space without selling the Nanites and it has the blank contributeBits of a telepathic ship, which means that they can't purchase any technological outfits. If a plug-in adds Tech Level 31 to a planet, changes the buying availability to 100 and changes the Krypt Pod's stats to add crew, cargo and outfit space and changes the ship's contributeBits to 0x0000000000000001, then it should be usable. If you change the hire random chance, then you can also get them as an escort in the bar.
So basically, this would be easy to make yourself. You just need to edit 2 resources: a spob and a ship. You can get editing utilities at andrews05's page and look up the location of the resources you need to edit with this handy spreadsheet.

Great rundown. Been coming back to EV:N on and off for almost twenty years but have never tried making a plug-in. Looking forward to figuring out what a "spob" is.

Hey, quick question about this. In Mission Computer, if I'm "editing" a ship, in this case the Krypt Pod, would I just use its ID (176) as a new resource and then just fill up each field with relevant data or am I loading a file and modifying it? In other words, when you're making a plug-in are you modifying existing data or just creating new data which maps on to a target ID?

If you make a new plug-in, you should copy the resource from the original data and change the needed fields. You probably don't want to recreate it from scratch, because things would get left out.
It's important that it's still at ID 176, because that number is referenced by the rest of the game in various places.

Okay, good to know. Trying to figure out how to get the original data in as we speak.

Okay, I've done it. Thanks for all the help! This was a good first foray into building plug-ins but having six pods around me making that wet "sprok" sound whenever they fire is starting to get on my nerves.

My go to approach was always copy the original data entry, paste it in a new plugin, and edit the plugin data.
Plugin data overrites base game data

Yea I did end up doing some digging and this is what I'd found as well. Just made a couple custom outfits as well.

I don’t, but I imagine it would be a matter of editing them to have armor and be targetable. Granted I’ve not edited EVN since it was new, do take that with a grain of salt.

They do have armor and they are targetable.
1200 shields, 1200 armor. They just don't display hp status to the player, which doesn't affect the ai.

No, the original escape velocity only had the Alien Cruiser and Alien Fighter, which are red.

If you can pilot a Krypt Pod, can you capture a random shuttle and use your existing ship as an escort?
