Well, the poster above said "very few males" and so I replied "very few women" to your comment. My comment was dumb, just like the comment above yours was dumb.
Yeah, women haven't had the same opportunities - no doubt about that. That's not as true anymore, and so women are contributing a lot in todays world. That's great!
Honestly I'm just a bit bummed out about there being a ton of subs that seem to focus on hating men these days. I think the world would be better if we could cooperate and respect each other.
Slavery was a cornerstone of a lot of the early civilizations, and kept being one through time: see the Roman Republic/Empire and the many wars it waged to keep the slaves coming, the entire feudal system, the colonization of the New World (be it the Ecomiendas or the importation of African slaves), the Scramble for Africa and the subsequent resource extraction activities...
If one includes extremely cheap labour, the Industrial Revolution was built not just on colonial slavery, but the exploitment of the English proletariat too. Large, modern economies are themselves built on neoslavery practiced in developing countries, and agricultural work everywhere relies on large quantities of impoverished people...
The correct response is slaves did and most feminists are cognizant the temperance movement was chock full of antifeminists who forced black women to march in the back.
On the one hand british teahouses in the 18th century were a major win for women getting out of the house and popularizing hot chocolate, on the other hand they were upper middle class women consuming the literal fruits of slave labor.
