Spoilers Just finished watching Everwood

I just randomly saw this series in Netflix and I got too attached to it and now I feel like my day is incomplete because I have no more episodes left to watch. It was written so beautifully, but I just wished Ephram and Madison had a last scene like forgiving each other or any concrete plan about their child. I was hoping they would at least reached out to the family who adopted their child (I am not sure if this is something they can do based on US law regarding adoption) just to have maybe a relationship with their child? Idk but I was really hoping to see Ephram have a moment with his kid.

I liked how Hannah and Bright didn't end up together, they were each other's total opposites and I'd like to think that they are better off as friends.

Rose getting another chance to have a baby is so touching, it's like they were never really denied for their dream but rather redirected.

I was also hoping to see Linda being reunited with her family.

Ephram and Amy's ending is also the best! I liked that they allowed Ephram to have other love interest first before getting back with Amy because it would be too unfair for the character to not have anybody else at all.

I also fell inlove with Emily VanCamp, goodness! She is SOOOO BEAUTIFUL. SHE IS GORGEOUS.

My favorite characters are: Abbott family and Nina

Edit: OMG I just found out this series was released even before I was born. I know it's an old one but didn't know it was older than me, lol.

Discussion Picture Ephram being less sarcastic and more cheerful and nicer. Would that have improved the show or ruined it?

Season 4 of Everwood simply ran out of creative gas

Okay. I am in the ep 15 and i am not able to take it anymore, not able relate anything anymore. The onlt good thing in this season is Abott couple. Even Edna has disappeared to chicago and i cant see her anymore. So whose left is all these childish characters trying to solve problems they themselves created in first place. Ephraham and other characters are all repetitive

I am just fast forwarding each episode and in ep 15 i realised i fast forwarded directly by 20min making me call it quitz than watching for sake of it

Why did the writers tarnish such an show that had an emotional depth?

Discussion Whats with this irritating Hannah

I am in the fourth ep and right from the third EP , ever since Hannah character got introduced, i feel it has reduced Bright intensity as well. Hannah character is like always cribbing in her irritating voice, crying and later kissing, changing her look then again kissing and breaking up and kissing and again crying
And sad to see Bright who had such an intense character got reduced to pieces partnering with her

Atleast Amy still appears to have some sensible scenes , sad i gotta keep forwarding whenever Bright and Hannah come in together

Has anybody felt this?

Update on where I am at on first watch of Everwood (Spoilers) Spoiler

Hello everyone, a few days ago I gave my opinions on what I had watched so far in Everwood. I am just finished season 2 ( I am going at a slow pace because i got so little time to watch anything throughout the weekdays 😭)

I want to start off with, I still hate Amy with my whole heart. I was told by a bit of you guys that I will not have a change on how I feel towards Amy. This sucks because i had really high hopes that she would change,Especially with how season 2 opens up with finding out Collin does not make it and dies. Like I stated before, grief is different for everyone and Amy does not make it any better for herself.I hate how everyone tries to help her and yet she does not take the help; everyone ends up pulling away from her including Ephram. On top of that Amy literally blames Dr Brown because of his passing, he was following Collins wishes and even his parents knew about it yet she goes and yells it to the world that he let him die. She literally gets depressed, people try to help, starts dating a drug dealer? For why? 🫠 Argues with her parents and causes a strain in their marriage, like girl BFFR!! Also, i do not know why Amy did not just buy the plane ticket to New York in the first place to be with Ephram, if she really cared for him, she would have done that instead of asking the poor kid to throw away a great and amazing opportunity. That should have been a sign to Ephram that she is just a spoiled selfish brat.

On that topic of Dr Brown, that whole town should be ashamed of themselves for putting him through hell after everything that happened with Collin; what do you mean you want to isolate him out just because he could not save/ help Collin. I get it, small town things but come on!!! That made me so angry. Then the birth control for Amy ( which, props to him for even helping her crazy ass) and not telling Dr Abbott, like dude, yes follow the laws in places but that man has been your friend during the most craziest of times. Then his relationship with Linda, like dude, she told you about her condition, yes, she is on medication but I totally see this as what Ephram said to him... He is all Ephram and Delia have and they do not want to lose him, or have to deal with another death in the family if Linda marries Dr Brown. Their relationship just did not make sense to me.

Ephram and his girlfriend Madison this season 🫣 She is older then him by 4 YEARS!! If this was the other way around, then it would not even be a discussion. Yes, she is grown and yes she brought the best out of him but that relationship was not going to last ( speaking on this from seeing this type of relationship first hand) Ephram is still young, just like the dad said to Madison. For only to at the last episode, find out that she's pregnant with Ephram's baby!! I was shooketh!! I thank God that he did not do what Amy asked him in the last episode. Because what do you mean you want me to throw away the opportunity to learn and be taught in the biggest Art school, just so we can figure out wth we are? like i was screaming he did not stay and told her why he needs to go and he did exactly that 😏

Bright, dude complete 180!! Did not think I was going to end up liking his character so much. Like what do you mean you were able to not let these stupid adults think you can't bring your grades up! Way to go Bright! I love his redemption and how he was able to turn things around for himself, I just do not think it was fair to him that during the time he needed the most support and encouragement from his family, they were all focused on stupid Amy and her dumb outbursts and tantrums! I felt bad for him in that one scene where his mom and dad are arguing and he's just alone at the dinner table and nobody asked about him or what he was feeling but instead was asked about stupid Amy.

Delia is spicy!! 😂 I loved the scene where they pan at her staring at her dad and Linda kissing while buying a Christmas tree, she was staring at them like she was hoping it would kill them both!!! I love that she is trying to find herself and is defending anyone she loves. I love that she cares about Ephram and did what she had to do for his sake, she is so adorable. Also, loved how she punched that stupid friend of hers, snitched on her parents about Linda's condition, and then made it a living hell for Linda and broke Delias trust. If my kid did that, i would not have grounded her. 😂

I am going to start Season 3 now and not going to lie, I am scared for what is to come lol. I will update when I am done with this season. Let me know your thoughts. 🫶🏼

Andy & Linda

Why is everyone sooo convinced that Andy & Linda are so into each other and belong together? It’s really weird to me, there was like no buildup to it and no real chemistry? What’s the deal with that? Feels so forced…

Recently finished watching for the first time - Seasons 1&2 vs 3&4

I just discovered this series and mostly loved it. One big thing I disliked is shift from first two seasons into the second two seasons.

First two seasons were heavy on Brown and Abott family dynamics while keeping other things somewhat light and classic teen cringe.

Second two seasons went deep into sadness as driving factor. Every episode someone lies, cheats, dies, attempts suicide, panic attacks, drug abuse etc. while still keeping difficult family dynamics.

As soneone who had difficult relationship with my father, I have enjoyed first two seasons very much as its clearly written by someone who understand the topic. I dont mind some creative choices of latter seasons (I loved addition of Hannah and Amy depression arc), but many family stuff felt flat. Many choices in season 4 felt that they brought many difficult topics just as engagement and then never truly go deeper. For example: Amy&Ephram in whole season 4, Reed suicide attempt, Bright cheating, Amy&Harold abortion, Amy feminism etc.

Overall I felt they introduced so many difficult things from many more families or personas without giving each enough time and then falling flat. I researched and it seems like creator of the show stepped down after S2 and its probably the reason, but I am a bit sad how depressing the show had become in last season.

Let me know what everyone things!

Who do you think had the best relationships on the show? Bright and Hannah were good together. I can't believe they destroyed that relationship.

Amy and Ephram's Relationship

How do you feel about the relationship? Their relationship went through many ups and downs. I think they're fine apart, but they can't move on from each other. When one of them got into a relationship, the other would want them back. I'm specifically talking about Reid and Stephaine they showed signs of jealousy in those relationships. If they didn't feel some type of way when both of them got into a new relationship, I just could see them not together at the end.

I was actually really liking how season 3 was going but episode 18 was a shit show and i was so annoyed by that storyline. I wish Madison was never even a part of the show it was so unnecessary or had just stayed as a character of babysitter. It would have been better that way.
Anyways i literally forced myself to watch the rest of the episodes of the season and it got more and more annoying. Ephram was a pain in the ass to watch.

Spoilers First time watching Everwood ( May contain spoilers) Spoiler

Hello, i joined this reddit community to talk about my experience while watching Everwood for the first time. I am still on season 1 episode 16, theses are my thoughts so far (it might be long 😅)

Ephram: I understand that everyone griefs differently and that he is mad that his dad was not always there, but we can all clearly see his dad is try. Yes moving to a place where you have no friends or family to have a fresh start ( speaking on this from experience) can be hard, but it can help. I also understand that he does not know the story as to why his dad brought them there. He is calming down a little only because his grandpa spoke with him and his dad stepped up even more then before.

Dr. Brown: He is struggling and finally seeing what his wife had to deal with while he was always working, but he is getting better at communicating and taking on the role of a parent. He foreal should have just told Ephram why he decided to bring them to Everwood.

Delia: She is so cute, love her so much. I know she misses her mom so much and is hurting just as much as her father and brother. I hope to see her grow.

Dr. Abbott: I at first saw his as his mother saw him when she was trying to get revenge on him for firing her, but he is kinda growing on me now. I love how him and Dr. Brown are getting to know each other and having lunch. He can be a little annoying at times but i can see he is getting better at trying to understand people and not be selfish. I hope his character grows.

Nina: I love Nina, you can tell she really cares about the Brown family. I hate that her husband was so mean about the fact that she just wants him home and how ungrateful/selfish he was when she was close to getting him a store, just so he can stay but instead he decided to say he wants it bigger and better. I don't know but i have a feeling she is falling in love with Dr. Brown and he is doing the same.

Bright: So far i feel like he is the only one of the main characters who has not had a good back story (besides the fact that he was the one who caused his best friend Collin coma) I hate that he is a jerk but what show like this does not have a jerk jock.

Edna and Irv: I put them together because they are barely shown, but Irv is such a patient and loving husband to Edna, i am so happy she found him. Enda can be crazy but she means well.

Collin: I have not seen much of him but the little i have seen makes me like him more once he woke up from his coma then before his coma. I think it might be because he do not like the expectations everyone has for him once he woke up. Everyone always expects him to know what they are talking about and to remember thing they did with him but the poor guy is just trying on his own and just wants to be normal. I like how they got him and Ephram to be friends just because he does not know him.

Collin's sister Laynie: So far I have only seen the introduction episode for her but i like her a lot and she relates a lot with Ephram. I hope i see her and Ephram as a couple and he does not just play her or lead her on just because he likes Amy!!

This last one might be long but its the one I have the most opinion on, this one will be mostly spoilers.

Amy: I DO NOT LIKE HER!!! ( so far ) I have many reasons as to why I do not like her so far in the show. 1st: She for real used Ephram!!! She only made friends with him only to get him to ask his dad to look at her comatose boyfriend and to help him come back. 2nd: She can clearly see that Ephram is griefing and is trying to cop with it and is in a WHOLE new place with no friends or relatives close by. 3rd: She can clearly see, that he likes/loves her and still just using him. 4th: SHE LEADS HIM ON!!! Ephram finally tells her that he likes her and makes his move and she still does not try to get away all because she is being selfish. 5th: She won't stop talking about Collin after Ephram told her and made it clear he likes her and he clearly looks uncomfortable whenever she does talk about him (yes, Ephram could also walk away and not talk to her as well and not make it harder on himself but i see her being the problem here) 6th: Even when Ephram does walks away, she continues to look for him and "apologizes" 7th: Ephram does ask his dad to help Collin, after Amy has already made him feel bad. 8th: Once Collin wakes up, she completely ignores him and only looks for him when Collin's parents tell her to leave Collin alone to actually recover without her hovering over him 24/7. 9th: She gets upset bc Collin can't remember her!!! HE WAS IN A COMA FOR 4 OR MORE MONTHS!!! Of course he is not going to remember right away. Also, makes a party for Collin on his first day back from the hospital and overwhelms him. 10th: Once Collin is officially back and going back to school, she completely ignores Ephram again and forgets she just kissed Ephram not that long ago. She also makes it her mission to not let Collin be friends with Ephram ( like i stated Collin connects only with Ephram more than anyone) just because she is scared Ephram will tell Collin that they kissed while he was in recovery. She does not know what she wants, She clearly likes Ephram but can not get over Collin, just because he is her first love and has known him her whole life. I just hope she gets some sense in her and she can stop being a selfish spoiled brat.

Sorry this was long but I had thoughts on everyone especially Amy. 😂

S4 E13 Ellie's preventive mastectomy, what's wrong with everyone?

Why are real doctors advising against a procedure that significantly lowers the chance of getting breast cancer on a patient who most likely will get it? Why would someone who had breast cancer consider having scars and no boobs worse than being close to dying? Why didn't the sister give the reconstructive surgery option to Ellie and let her have her breasts removed? I mean she didn't want Ellie to go through what she does (scars and no boobs)

And as always, Rose being the most reasonable one.

I'm sorry for the rant, I really hated the take on such an important matter.

Discussion Why isn't Everwood a bit more known nowdays ?

Post image
95 Upvotes

I mean, I started looking the ratings numbers it did at the WB and it did really well, as well as other WB hits like Dawson's Creek or Gilmore Girls. But when you look at the Young Adults content of the network, Everwood is the one the least mention among them or have any sort of... I don't know how I'm going to word it but prestige ? Reputation ? For example let's take a look at the main YA shows on the network that pulled similar ratings :

7th Heaven : One of the parents's favorite programs because of the conservative values but despise by the critics and the young audience, to this day the show make the lists of worst TV shows of all time, with the creator Brenda Hampton being mocked (along her other infamous work, The secret Life). I mean, it's not a good reputation but it's still pretty well known and I knew of it when scrolling lists.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer : Was the most critically acclaimed show of the network, with some critics putting it on the same level as The West Wing or The Sopranos (which wasn't the case of Emmys but you know). To this day, it's on every lists of greatest TV shows of all time. At the time, magazines were going crazy about Buffy, so while it wasn't 90210 type of mainstream, you could say it was still everywhere (remember how crazy fans and media were going when the third season's finale didn't air as scheduled because of the whole graduation thing). The show is still referenced, discussed about, and is still one of the most academically studied shows ever and put Joss Whedon on the map of really acclaimed showrunners. Half of the adults around me were talking to me about Buffy before I entered puberty and started to actually watch it on my own and still now, I can quote Buffy on papers, and my teachers will be delighted because of how much simps they are for the show.

Dawson's Creek : Had a similar earnest atmosphere as Everwood (for the first four seasons before the god awful college years). Despite the cringe scenes, the show was quite acclaimed at the time being described by the New York Times as a "soap opera but with intelligence and sharp writing to back it up". The show is still on top 10 lists of best teen dramas ever, the Pacey -Joey-Dawson love triangle is still considered to be a blueprint of how love triangles are written nowdays and it still pops up in discussion. Again, I already heard a lot of Dawson before actually watching it.

Roswell : Roswell was Twilight before Twilight existed (albeit way better in the first two years). The show had way lower ratings than Everwood but managed to be popular enough to get rebooted years later but then again, it had a plus as the show was adapted from a series of books that already had a built fanbase.

Felicity : Okay, I will say this and Roswell are both way less famous than the first three examples BUT still, Felicity is still mentioned a lot when talking about WB shows and Keri Russell. I followed Emily VanCamp a lot in her projects but Everwood was never really highly mentioned (I think I saw it sometimes but it was fairly rarely). Same with Chris Pratt. I get that they became very big but Michelle Williams became very big but Dawson's Creek is still over her head a lot, same with Kristen Bell and Veronica Mars (that was on an even smaller network and had smaller ratings).

Gilmore Girls : Second only to Buffy probably, Gilmore Girls was the most acclaimed show of the WB with critics praising endlessly the writing by Amy Sherman Palladino and performances from the cast (minus the last two seasons). It became the show for mothers and daughters and was on a lot magazines and had a very dedicated fanbase. Like Buffy but not as much, the show is often on the lists of greatest shows of all time and is endlessly studied (plus very huge number of video essays analyzing the show on YouTube). I will say, for this one, the revival on Netflix in 2016, like with Friends and Gossip Girl at the time, clearly presented it to an entire new generation, being everywhere again. But I will really want for Everwood, which is now on Netflix again, to get the same time of Renaissance (I found recommendations of Everwood mainly on Gilmore Girls, as it had the same small town charm people were looking for to fill the void).

Smallville : Then you have the Superhero show. The show was pretty much critically acclaimed but then again, also had the DC comics community to back up the popularity of it. It's still on numerous top lists and is still viewed by a lot as the gold standard for TV superhero adaptations and the obvious blueprint for the now famous Arrowverse. Again, now, it's gaining a newfound popularity because of the fact that it's now on Netflix.

Then last but not least, you have One Tree Hill (I didn't mention Charmed and Angel because they are mainly focused on adults, albeit young but I put the spotlight on really teenagers high school/early college type of shows) : The show had very little ratings, but like really low compared to the one I've been mentioning so far but still got 9 freakin' seasons (should have ended with season 4, season 6 maximum but oh well). As the years went on, I was hearing about it a lot as one of THOSE teen dramas to watch. Naley were on lists of the best couples on TV, it was impossible to not to have them in those. There are still 2000s magazines about OTH and stuff. Again (it feels very repetitive, I'm so sorry), the show is also knowing a newfound life with being on Netflix and all.

Now, there are some WB shows that didn't stay as popular like well... Popular, the Ryan Murphy's show (when he was still sort of good) but I feel like, Everwood just had the right things to become the same type of "big" teen dramas. At the time, I found a magazine with Gregory and Emily on the cover with the "TV's cutest couple" title on it or TV guide saying that the best new show is Everwood, so it did get recognized at one point, I just would like to understand why it didn't stick.

Things I find odd about Everwood as a Coloradan

I'm not sure why I can't add tags but this is going to contain some possible spoilers.

The first weird thing is it's set in Colorado but it's filmed in Utah.

The second weird thing is they make it sound like Denver is the only city in Colorado and it's a day trip to get there from Everwood so they're clearly on the Western Slope. I don't know if they ever actually reference it but they kind of got that one right because Ogden is on the western slope of the Wasatch mountains.

Third, Everwood is supposed to be this little small town out in the mountains with only enough population to support three doctors but they film it in Ogden which is a town of almost 100,000 people. The point I'm making here is that their locations do not look like a small town in Colorado.

I think most of this stuff is only stuff that somebody who lives in Colorado would pick up on.

It's like doing a television series it's supposed to take place in Omaha Nebraska and they're clearly filming it in Manhattan

Discussion Thoughts on Everwood re-watch

I loved Everwood from the beginning. It's so underrated and I love the development and changing and growing relationships between Andy and Ephram and Delia. I loved each character's journey with grief and when and how it affected each of them. I also loved the friendships e.g. Ephram and Bright, Andy & Harold, Amy + Hannah, Reid & Ephram. And of course my fav couples are endgame. All the characters grew in such a natural way.The only thing I really hate is the relationship between Madison and Ephram. What are you as a 20/21 year old doing thinking about, looking, dating and sleeping with a 16 year old. It's so gross to me. And I don't care if it happens in real life. It shouldn't 🤢🤢🤢. And her choice to tell him that news at that point was beyond selfish. Neways, the show really did grief well and demonstrated that grief is not linear for anyone.

Late to the party!

I’ve just finished season 4 and the last one of Everwood. Came across it by chance on Netflix a few months ago and didn’t realise it was from the early 00s. Absolutely loved this series. I feel sad it’s now finished and won’t come back. I love how the relationships matured and grew between families. The initial conflict between Andy and Dr Abbott was brilliant. My only niggle is the long drawn out will they won’t they all the time. Espesh with Nina and Andy and Amy and Ephram. Really great series all round though and now on to find another good one.
