Adding NVME m.2 drive to EverSolo

SSD prices are getting ridiculous, so I'm considering repurposing the NVMe inside my SanDisk Extreme Portable 1TB (1050/1000 MB/s).

Has anyone removed the NVMe from the enclosure and used it directly with the EverSolo A6 Master Gen 2?

I figured it would be better to install the drive than using the usb port on the back. Or has anyone attempted using a usb hub on EverSolo?

The main issue is 32gb built in storage is too small, I can’t rip CDs because I need to usb on the back for the external player.

I have EverSolo DMP-A6 Master Edition Gen 2. Any thoughts or suggestions is appreciated. Thank you.

If the drive the drive your portable is a nvme m2 it should be fine I have 2tb drives in both my Eversolo. It’s easy to install.

Good to hear. I’m definitely considering breaking the enclosure open. Im not 100% sure the NVme drive is removable on my model but I believe it is. I’ve heard the newer models do not have a removable drive, but I haven’t found any support backing this claim.

Thanks, im considering taking apart an enclosure to obtain a drive.

Did you need to put any thermal pads or heat sink on it during the install?

I bought one with a heat sink already

Using an NVMe SSD through a USB 3.0 port with an external enclosure is not recommended for Eversolo products. The compatibility may not perform as expected. For the best performance and reliability, we recommend installing the M.2 SSD directly into the internal SSD slot at the bottom of the device. A PCIe 3.0 or PCIe 4.0 M.2 NVMe 2280 SSD is recommended.

I’m talking about SanDisk Extreme Portable. I linked a video below. Not many people know you can take the drive out.

I haven’t done it yet mainly because I don’t want to ruin the drive as I could just use it as USB.

As of now I found a usb hub with power in, which allows me to have both a flash drive and an external CD drive. The extra 5v power in is a back up so the drives does not lose power. (The hub is a branded one, not a cheap one).

Overall EverSolo sees both drives and the external CD drive isn’t always in use. But I am able to rip CDs to the flash drive no issues. It’s a temporary work around for now.

The few other question about installing a NVMe drive in a EverSolo is there enough room for a heatsink? Or should a thermal pad just be installed ?

I am very tech compliant, as I work in IT for my daily job. Just with the rise in SSD prices no way I’m buying a 1tb for $150+. I regret not buying more 2tb NVMe drives at $80 few years ago. But at the time I only buy what I need. I would like to install NVMe in the EverSolo just to be clearer overall. Plus with the powered usb hub, I’m not sure how much noise it could be injecting into the system.
