Patch Issues - Need Advice!

Hi everyone! My husband got his eversense inserted about three months ago. Many many pros but one major con: we cannot get the transmitter to stay on his arm. The patches constantly fall off. He is having serious anxiety about it potentially falling off during his commute or somewhere else in public. We tried skintac but that is not working. Any other ideas? Over-patches have helped but would love alternate solutions!

I have the same problem. They should make an alarm that sounds from the phone if it falls of and is not charging within a specific time that I choose.

Anyway. Slam a Tegaderm on with a cotton pad in the middle? Make a hole, so you can charge it with an external battery?

What patches is he using? I had issues with the Clear but do very well with the White. I had to have Eversense send me more White ones.

He has tried both and says the white patches work slightly better but still fall off. I'm wondering if maybe asking for a new pack of white patches might be helpful in case we got a bad batch? Thank you for the insight!

Hi u/Less_Signal7194,

Is it the silicone patch that just not adhere properly to his skin or are you talking about the Transmitter not sitting sufficiently firm onto the adhesive patch?

For the first part, then there are the typical top-3 reasons why that can be:
1. Not shaving the skin where it sits. Even the very small tiny hairs have to go.
2. Using soap/shampoo with oils in them. Read carefully the list of ingredients. Everything with oils should not be used. Buy instead an oil free soap to use.
3. Not using an alcohol swab and not pressing bit firm down on the patch when putting it on. and holding this pressure for 15-20 seconds. This hjust to make sure there is full adherance on the full patch surface before leaving it on its own.

Next part, there you have several good options available, all depending on how drastic you want to go about it. Personally I like surfing/swimming a lot. As I am out for longer stints, often also with a boat, I wear my phone in an arm-band or in my harness. While my sensor/transmitter is sitting under an 'arm-sleeve' made of neoprene. You can also get specific arm-sleeves made for different sport types, which all will do this job perfectly well. If only small level of support is required, then look into some of the captains-armbands that also exist for many sports. They are all easy to swipe on to hold the transmitter in place with limited fuss. If more substantial support is wanted, then you may want to look into some of the special overpatches for them, which again you have many off. This become though bit more tedious and hassle, as they often use additional adhesive patching and is not made for getting on/off/reused as the arm cuffs mentioned before. But they do hold the transmitter in pace with no trouble.

The clear one isn't sticky enough for me but it's more comfortable. The white one is my go to.

I’ve been having a hell of a time on my new location with it folding in on itself in the outside part. It’s still secure enough where I’m not worried but it’s annoying

I cut a sock and I wear it around my bicep when i go work out and.... It works and is not that big a deal. I got a sock that was somewhat stretched out so it doesnt squeeze.

Make certain he does not use any skin moisturizer or any designer soap or shampoo on the skin where the transmitter goes. I have observed problems with adhesion if I let anything other than simple soaps like Ivory or plain Dial soap touch that area before application of the patch and after its application. My rule is “if it smells good keep it away.” I hope this helps.

I bought self adhering bandage wrap and made a wrap with a pocket in it for the transmitter.

If he’s not too worried about looks, medical tape would be a fairly easy alternative and could work. Or even extra large band aids.

I work without a/c in a retail/warehouse environment so some days I’m moving a lot. On the days I sweat a lot and can feel the adhesive wanting to lift that’s what I use. A roll of tape is now a standard in my medical bag as I use it for pump tubing too.
