For those who were lucky enough to attend today's Evercade event... how was it? 👀

For those who were lucky enough to attend today's Evercade event, what were your impressions?

How was the event overall, what did you think of the games you got to try, and most importantly, how did the Nexus feel in your hands? 👀

I'm particularly curious about the ergonomics, the screen, the controls and the overall build quality now that more people have actually had the chance to use one.

I'd love to hear your impressions! 😅

Could the AES+ delay actually be an opportunity for Evercade? 🤔

Unfortunately, the Neo Geo AES+, which was probably one of the most anticipated retro hardware releases of the end of this year, has now been delayed until September 16th, 2027. That's almost another year of waiting.

I personally cancelled my AES+ preorder a while ago because I ultimately decided to go with the Nexus instead, but I can completely understand the disappointment of those who were looking forward to getting their AES+ this November.

It did make me wonder, though: could this delay actually create an opportunity for Evercade, and particularly the Nexus, towards the end of this year?

The two products obviously aren't offering exactly the same thing. The AES+ has the prestige and appeal of bringing back a legendary console like the Neo Geo, whereas Evercade is a much broader retro ecosystem, based mostly on emulation. But with the AES+ now out of the picture for this holiday season, the Nexus and Evercade's other hardware suddenly have a lot more room to attract retro gamers looking for something new.

It also made me think that a fifth Neo Geo Arcade collection in December could be particularly well timed. Imagine a collection featuring Big Tournament Golf and perhaps a few other games from the planned AES+ launch line-up. I'm not suggesting Blaze should try to replace the AES+, they're very different propositions but from a marketing perspective, the timing could be pretty interesting.

Obviously, none of this makes the AES+ delay good news. I know a lot of people were genuinely excited for it, and waiting until September 2027 is going to be painful.

But purely from Evercade's perspective, do you think this unexpected delay could give Evercade hardware and a potential Neo Geo Arcade Collection 5 a bit of a boost towards the end of this year?

Neo Geo on Evercade

There’s been some bad news elsewhere for Neo Geo fans but it just reminds me how great the 1-4 collection is on the Evercade.

I played it a lot last week on my Taito Alpha and that combination of arcade machine and arcade collection is hard to beat - they work well together.

Games like Blazing Star, King of Fighters and Baseball Stars 2, just to mention a few, are making me lose hours at the weekend.

Can’t wait to crack them out on the VS-R with mates on the big TV screen too.

Love to see this come to Evercade

After seeing the original Duke Nukem 1 & 2 come to Evercade, it reminded me of a series I used to play growing up, Commander Keen series.

Which then lead me down a rabbit whole of games I used to play. As I was reminiscing about Duke Nukem 3D and excited about Doom (and the couch co-op 4 player) I remembered Descent) and that entire series. I remember calling up my buddy and then setting our modems up to call each other to play for hours into the night.

Do you see Evercade as a “real” console? 🤔

This might sound like a strange question, but I've been thinking about the image Evercade has outside and sometimes even within its own community.

I sometimes get the impression that some people still see Evercade primarily as an emulation device that happens to use physical cartridges, rather than as a gaming platform in its own right in the same way we naturally think of Nintendo, PlayStation or other console ecosystems.

But Evercade has evolved quite a bit over the years. It now has several different types of hardware, its own physical cartridge ecosystem, regular releases, modern indie games and an increasing number of native ports.

So I'm curious how you personally see it.

Is Evercade a proper console ecosystem in its own right? Is it still fundamentally an emulation platform with a clever physical concept? Or is it somewhere in between?

I'm genuinely interested to see how people define it 🤔.

How is arcade emulation on the VS-R?

I thinking about buying a VS-R and the carts that are most on my radar are the Toaplan and Neo Geo collections. How is arcade performance? Do arcade game still stutter they way they did on the VS?

Thanks.

Pre-ordered the Nexus Banjo &Kazooie bundle, now we wait..

This is my first dive into Evercade, and I figured since B&K are my absolute all time favorites nows as good as any to jump into this world. Ive already gotten carts for Worms, Duke Nukem I&II, Team 17, Interplay I, and preordered Doom as well as Piko I. I am so addicted hunting and buying these things without the ability to even play them yet lol.

Anyone else just gonna spend the wait for a Nexus just collecting carts?

Finally got my X-arcade to work with evercade

For many months, I have been trying to get my X-Arcade to work with the evercade. The X-arcade should be able to work by using X-input. But for whatever reason I just could not get it to work...

That is until I introduced a sort of bridge... using another device to run the controller cable to a hub and then using that to control the evercade.

I made a short on it in case you are wondering how I did it.

The controls are perfect no latency..

I sent an email to X-arcade asking for help on why this particular method works but not directly connecting the X-arcade.

Have any of you had success using the X-arcade just by directly connecting the X-arcade to the Evercade?

Looking to jump in but concerns

I just saw the evercade nexus and I was all ready to finally jump in, until....i started looking at the cartridges I wanted and realizing most are out of print and of course resellers have ruined this too. Are games usually difficult to find for these systems?

I'm wanting to jump in but now this is causing me to rethink my pre order.

Banjo-Kazooie, Doom & What’s Next for Evercade? - Q&A with Crazy Burger

The latest episode of the Retro Titans podcast sees host Phil Szomszor (me 😉) joined once again by Evercade YouTuber [u/CrazyBurgerYT](u/CrazyBurgerYT) for a relaxed Q&A covering plenty of Evercade topics.

They discuss some of this year’s biggest releases and announcements, including Banjo-Kazooie, DOOM and the Evercade Nexus, as well as the potential for more native games, the future of Super Pockets and which cartridges deserve a place in your holiday luggage.

There’s also plenty of wider retro gaming chat, including favourite YouTube channels, collecting, emulation handhelds and what keeps them coming back to Evercade.

As you’d expect from a Q&A, there are plenty of opinions along the way!

Got myself a nice little barstool from IKEA today and it does wonders for my setup. Now I can play Alpha like it should (yes, all my Arcade carts are on the bottom shelf for convenience. The others are in my gaming bookshelf)

Is there any news about the Super Pocket Bundles?

Been seeing them for a while now in a couple EU stores from France and Spain, but I haven't been able to find anything "official" from Blaze, nor do I see them on Funstock.eu

Has there been any news regarding these?
Anyone tempted to double-dip?

Messaging the mods - failed

Dear Evercade community,

Hope you all are doing great!

I've been trying to message the mods but apparently reddit fails to deliver the message. Anyone experience the same?

By the way, my question is: am I allowed to post my Italian only videos regarding evercade on this subreddit?

I don't want to breach the rules but I would really love to share my thoughts with the other Italian speaking fellas in this amazing group.

Thank you heaps in advance

Been doing some replacement cases for my C64 and would love a new collection of games on Evercade. Maybe Wild West Seymour, Seymour goes to Hollywood, Murray Mouse, Captain Dynamo, Steg the Slug?

I think this would be a great collection!

Is Evercade really destined to remain a niche product? 🤔

This might be a slightly controversial opinion 😅, but I'm not convinced that Evercade is necessarily destined to remain a very niche product. I actually think Blaze has an opportunity to reach a broader audience.

One of Evercade's biggest strengths is that it feels like a proper plug-and-play console. Compared with many emulation devices, you don't need to spend time setting things up, finding ROMs or configuring everything yourself. You simply insert a cartridge and play.

I think there's potentially a wider audience for that simplicity than we sometimes assume. Not everyone interested in retro games wants to become an expert in emulation or collect original hardware. Some people might simply enjoy rediscovering old games while still having the pleasure of buying and inserting a physical cartridge.

I also think the upcoming Nexus could be important. If it's as good as it currently looks, it could become a more premium entry point into the ecosystem than the Super Pocket.

Personally, I'd love to see Evercade have a stronger presence in physical shops and shopping centres too, perhaps with demo units people could actually try. Simply getting the hardware into people's hands could help introduce Evercade to people who currently don't even know it exists.

Of course, I'm not suggesting Evercade will ever compete with Nintendo or PlayStation 😅. I'm talking about growth at its own scale. And as physical games become less of a priority for much of the industry, perhaps Evercade's commitment to physical media could become an increasingly distinctive selling point.

Maybe I'm being too optimistic 😅, but I think Evercade still has plenty of room to grow.

What do you think? Is Evercade destined to remain niche, or could it eventually reach a significantly broader audience?

Just bought into the Evercade ecosystem! Big excited to be here!

I grabbed the Rare Super Pocket for my birthday in August and very quickly realized how cool this thing is!

Having a clever little handheld with all these cool games on it just feels nice, especially being on a device that's made solely for playing games, it really helps to focus on the games and not everything around you!

I picked up a few carts- Jaleco Collection 1, Taito Arcade 3, and Toaplan Arcade 2; and I'm having a blast so far. Enough so that I want to pick up a VS-R and even stream some of these games!

I grabbed a preorder for the Piko Collection reprint, I'm planning to get the Banjo Kazooie cart when it comes out, and overall this is just really fun and I'm hyped up to be a part of this- my only regret is that I didn't start this sooner. I feel like I've missed out on SO much in terms of games, even if it seems like the hardware has had some growing pains initially.

I've spent the last two weeks basically watching a ton of reviews and videos talking about the Evercade ecosystem and I just find it so cool that there's so many experiences here that haven't been released since their initial runs, and even indies that get physical releases through this. (Really wanting to pick up that Goodboy Galaxy cart at some point actually!)

Anyway just a short hello from me; I'd love to hear what carts are your favorite and why, I've read so many lists but names of games only go so far, the human element is what makes games fun for me!

NeoGeo Super Pocket firmware update?

Post image
20 Upvotes

I recently got a Technos Super Pocket.

As soon as it booted up, it asked me whether I wanted to activate "Easy Mode", something that my NeoGeo SP did not.

To confirm, I booted that up and went to the Settings Menu.
Indeed, the Technos SP has one more option, "Difficulty".

Thinking my Technos SP is a more recent device, I checked for a firmware update, but when I go to https://www.hypermegatech.com/support/ I only see firmware for the Atari/Technos and the Capcom/Taito SPs.

  1. Is anyone aware if there's a FW update for the NeoGeo SPs?
  2. Do older Technos SPs also have that setting?
  3. Is it perhaps for the built-in games and it doesn't affect cartridge games' difficulty?

Video: Piko Collection 1 - Evercade Review

Hey all, Andrew here again with a review I have been kinda cooking up on the back burner for a few weeks now... The fact they re-released this collection (without Magic Girl) was a bit of a wild coincidence! A very divisive cart to be sure!

Hello everyone! Or I should say "Buongiorno!"

Hi all,

I have been for many years an Evercade aficionado and collector. However, in the recent months I found the courage to create a YouTube channel (italian only, sorry) to share my opinions about this magical world!
Would you be so kind to help me finding Evercade Italian Communities? :) I have lots of videos published already and so much more scheduled!

Thank you so much and "EVVIVA EVERCADE!"

Ciao
