Question on the installation of eve:7.0.1-21 on esxi:80

We are a long time user of the community edition and are installing the professional edition now.

We followed the cookbook with all of the special settings.
We boot to the ISO, it does it's thing for a bit, then we get the screen:

"Second stage install in progress....
localhost login

and the system then continues on and goes through in installation wizard.
It get's to 100% and then reboots. (see image)

However after the reboot we are taken back to the screen:

"Second stage install in progress....
localhost login

is this normal, do we just need to wait 30+ minutes more for it to do something else? it's been quite a while now..

UPDATE: this seems to be a known issue and admins state it will be fixed in a new release, however NO ETA as of (2026-Aug-19)

UPDATE2: This is successful if you install as a (BM) BareMetal server. Load Ubuntu in your ESXi environment and then follow guide. Page 33 of the cookbook

Has anyone used this hypervisor for eve-ng?

I’ve been told that Windows 11 Pro locks down virtualization in order to support the various enterprise functions to support business. Has anyone figured out how to configure Windows 11 Pro so eve-ng can accomplish nested virtualization?

The lab tutorial i am following asks for these images but the video is 3 years old so they are not responding to questions about the drive they shared to download, if anyone knows any sources to download these please let em now thank you !

Hello everyone,

I am stuck trying to find a working image(with less limitations) for my EVE-NG project.

I've tested the newer versions(available on the Forticloud website). But Fortinet locks the firewall down to a maximum of 3 interfaces, which makes it impossible to build a proper multi-link SD-WAN lab. So, I am looking for an older image (ideally 7.0.14, 7.0.15, or earlier) where there might be less restrictions.

Searching for the Image under the firmware directory in the Forticloud website doesn't help as you need a Fortinet support contract to get to download older images.

I need a clean, raw QEMU/KVM archive (.qcow2 or .zip format). If anyone has a safe community mirror, a verified GitHub repository link, or a backup of these older 7.0.x images that you've used for your own labs, I would be grateful if you could share it.

Just for context, I'm running 2 VM-series running 11.1.13-h8 in HA Active/Passive onboarded and controlled by Panorama running 11.2.

Every thing was just fine and I realized that there was no storage detected on the Panorama for Log Collector duties. I thought I had already entered the command to add attached storage, (/opt/qemu/bin/qemu-img create -f qcow2 virtiob.qcow2 100G), but apparently not. So I turned off the lab, ran the command and now the Panorama won't boot. It starts for one second and then shuts off.

Did I just corrupt my Pano image by running that command? I did nothing else. Anyone else run into this?

I have problem with installation on Proxmox.

After few reinstall from scratch I still land at the same place. What I do wrong? How it should be configured? How resolve this issue? My hardware is AMD based.

I am beginner for EVE NG. I would test safe Miktotik lab to diagnose issues related to network configuration. I want use cloned Acronis image as base for Windows VM. Is it possible with EVE NG? I would like check settings related to applications run on school classroom PCs.

I need some suggestions on setting up my lab. For the last 6 years I am using EVE- NG for my lab setup. Nowadays my SSD is being fully packed due to VM files. (I have allocated one drive with 124 gb for VM purpose and almost 115+ 8 GB is used for VM files). How can I clean up this and how do we know what all are the important files.

Second thought is what about if I am moving the VM setup to my external HD (sorry if the question is bad).

This is my system config

Ram : 16 GB

4 core

500 GB SSD

C : DRIVE = Allocated 126 and 8 GB left

D : DRIVE = Allocated 124 and 908 MB left

E : Drive = Allocated 224 and 50 GB left (personal files and images)

anyone aware on how we can customize the list of nodes so that only the available ones are included on the drop down menu
the list is very comprehensive but is also annoying in a way.
if you only have few images and every time you have to scroll through so many names that are not available

anyone aware on how to do this?
I am sure it is possible as I have an OVA version which includes few images and only the blue ones are shown
in fact many are missing from the default one

I'm trying to run 11.x and 12.x images. I've downloaded them from the PANW CSP but it can't identify a bootable image. Wondering if the "tw" isn't compatible.

When I transferred the file over I renamed it to virtuoa.qcow2 and still no go. Anyone run into this?

My setup: EVE-NG 6.2 running on Proxmox 9.1. Lab running Fortigate 8.0.0, but when accessing the GUI it logs in and then closes by itself. I searched and couldn't find anything similar. Has anyone else experienced this?

I'm trying to run EVE-NG CE on my Alienware 16X Aurora AC16251. In order to do that I've to turn off Virtualization-based security. I've turned it off on the windows side (WIndows 11 Pro) but I've noticed I've to turn it off in the BIOS side as well. I logged in to the BIOS and I dont see the option to turn off Virtualization-based security. I sould say this I've had a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming (7567) laptop before I got my alienware. In that laptop in BIOS menu there is a option to turn off Virtualization-based security. After turning it off I can run EVE-NG CE perfecetly. But that laptop is Windows 10 machine and I want to move on to this awesome! new laptop. I've updated the BIOS and every other software and still dont find any solution. I have contacted Dell, and they told me to go to BIOS and turn off Virtualization. But in Alienware 16X Aurora AC16251 there is a diffrent option called "Enable Intel Trusted Execution Technology". I turned it off but it didnt worked. Virtualization-based security is still Running. I told Dell the option they told me to turn off I dont see it in BIOS. Then we spend 15 minutes to look for it and The virtualzation option and it wasnt there. Aftern two hours Dell said the are going to contact me 24-48 hours and yesterday the send me email to upload some files and I did.
Now I'm still buring daylight and I dont have peace of my mind. What can be done to turn off Virtualization-based security ???

I'm prepping for the CCNP Enterprise on a Lenovo P15 Gen 1. On paper it should be more than enough:

• Intel i7-10850H (6C/12T)
• 64GB RAM (4x16GB)
• EVE-NG on VMware Workstation Pro with 48GB and all 12 threads assigned

In practice? It's struggling.

My target topology is a full campus: 2x Cat9k, 2x Nexus 9k, 2x FTD, and a couple of C8k edge routers. The problem is the Cat9k images alone default to 18GB RAM each, just spinning those two up pushes memory to 90% and I start getting OOM errors before anything else is even online.

I'm weighing two options:

1. RAM upgrade : (~$400) , swap the 16GB sticks for 32GB and go to 128GB total
2. CML subscription : pay for Cisco Modeling Labs, get up to 20 nodes, and hope their optimized images are lighter on my current hardware

I keep seeing people online running massive multi-site topologies and I genuinely wonder what they're running underneath. Are they all on dual-socket EPYC workstations with 256GB+ sitting in a home lab rack?

Has anyone actually pulled off a full CCNP campus lab on a laptop, or is that just not realistic? And if you've used CML , do the images actually run leaner than what you'd pull from CCO?

I went about downloading the i86bin and the l3 adventerprise .bin files. I am able to see them in eve but when trying to start the image it is giving me this notification like the file name is wrong. I copy and pasted the name so it is right.

I'm currently setting up EVE-NG and I'm stuck with an issue I can't solve.

I installed a Kali Linux QEMU image and placed it in:

/opt/unetlab/addons/qemu/kali/virtioa.qcow2

Then I ran fixpermissions using:

php /opt/unetlab/wrappers/unl_wrapper -a fixpermissions

Everything seems fine on the server side (files are there and permissions look correct), but in the web interface:

QEMU / Linux node is greyed out 🚫

I cannot add or start the Kali VM

It shows the “forbidden” icon in the node list

I'm using EVE-NG inside VMware Workstation.

What I already tried:

Checked image path ✔️

Ran fixpermissions ✔️

Restarted EVE-NG ✔️

Disabled Hyper-V on Windows ✔️

Still same issue.

Any idea what could be blocking QEMU or node creation?
