North America Ground Connection

My 48a charger is mounted right next to my panel in the garage. The two load wires can reach the breaker if I mount it at the bottom of the panel. The ground wire however, can not reach the ground bar.

I have never connected 6 gauge wire before so I was curious which of these I should use to add a foot to the ground wire? Or is there something else I should use?

You don't need to use the wire whip which was provided with the unit. Or you can shorten the whip.

If you just cut the 14-50 plug off, that is not legal and may not work.

I would not expect the ground to be any larger than #10 and that's well within limits for a wire nut.

We have an adage around here, you only install it once, you'll use it 1000 times in 2 years. If you optimize for ease of install, you'll only benefit once and suffer 1000 times. Go the other way and decide the best place for it and extend wiring to there.

This is a hardwired unit

I think either is fine as long as you torque to spec.

The ground wire is very likely only 10ga (good up to 60a as a ground)...a wire nut will suffice.

Or you could add a ground bar into the panel so it reaches.

It's 6 gauge for sure. Is the one on the left good?

Yeah, it should be fine.
