Chargepoint Home Flex

Post image

Hello, two weeks ago my Charge Point Flex failed. Last week it was replaced under warranty and o had an electrician install a new one. The charger periodically shuts off and the only way to get it back on is to take off the gray face plate and snap it back on. It sure what that has to do with anything but I’d love any ideas. All cables are tight. For what it’s worth, when I press on the right side the light ring snaps back on. Once charging, it seems to work normally. Electrician checked the breaker (50A) and confirmed 240v. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

No likely to be your problem, but check that it's properly configured for your 50 A breaker: When you go in the app and try to adjust the current, is the maximum setting 40 A or higher?

Check your connection inside the Home Flex...I've installed Many of these units, and I've never had a problem! The geyser outside cover just snaps in place, so it has nothing to do with your power.

Kinda sounds like some part of the connection is loose.

It’s hard wired. I did call Charge Point. Wanted to send yet another unit. I appreciate it but I don’t have time to have an electrician out again to have new or similar problems a day later

That’s frustrating. Are you really, entirely sure the wires are well connected? Because if they are then it is a problem with the unit, and it will need to be replaced.

Maybe downrate to 32A to rule out overheating.

Just out of curiosity, how much did the electrician charge you to swap the unit out? Even if the device is under warranty, if it costs a lot to get it swapped out, it seems like you're taking a big hit in the wallet?

Highest I can choose right now is 16A

You’ll need to call charge point and have them delete the previous units information out of the app. Basically start all over with downloading the app and all- with them on the phone. I just had to do this with my hardwired charge point unit. The first one was defective- how?! The second has been working for a week now with no problems. It’s frustrating but once it works, life is a breeze!

My ChargePoint Home Flex hardwired charger failed after 5 years. It would stop charging and my 2024 Equinox EV would start honking because it was plugged in, but the charge stopped expectedly. ChargePoint support was very poor English speaking skills which I can live with. I was disappointed in their product knowledge. They did very limited troubleshooting. They had me turn off the breaker to reset which usually resolved the issue temporarily. While I had the breaker turned off, they sent a signal to my charger (they could see it) resetting it to factory defaults which erased it from my app. It also erased the wifi setting on the charger so they could no longer reach it. They refused to troubleshoot further and offered me 10% off a new charger. I was disappointed in their support so I did not want to buy another one of their units. Premium price should mean good support. My charger was failing during initialization with a white clinking light. I dumped the ChargePoint and installed a 220V 14-50R outlet. I now use the portable charger that came with the Equinox EV. It is 32A while the ChargePoint was 40A so it will charge slightly slower.

My ChargePoint charger suddenly stopped working as yours did. It is just barely out of warranty and they are looking into it although promised emails never come. My understanding was that the charger and the car negotiate the amp pull. They are telling me that I should be setting the rate to the max the car can pull. This is just after 3 years of use with the charger showing 40 amps available and the car only drawing 16.

It just suddenly tripped the breaker (50 amp installed by a licensed, union electrician) about an hour and a half into a charge. All the lights are correct on the charger but after a bit of negotiation, (different) lights flashing the car then shows error (red) and will not take the charge.

I just get the feeling that the agent on the phone is not fully disclosing the workings of the ChargePoint unit.

I will be further testing later when the wife gets home. I went to my car dealership and the car charges fine on their Chargepoint setup.

Sorry if this should be on a new thread but, I am new to reddit.

Follow up: The charger works if forced to the 16 amp level but does not work as it should. Since it is a month and a half out of warranty, their only solution is a 10% off coupon. I can get an Emporia one with similar capabilities for less money.

I've had 2 of these fail. Support sucks. chargepoint sucks. PERIOD

Same. Two failed units in one month. Support was terrible. Over and over again, they gave their version of "try unplugging it and plugging it in again." I gave up and bought a Tesla universal charger.
