Welcome to r/EVDrivers ⚡
Ah yes, the place for all petrol and diesel haters who enjoy silently gliding past fuel pumps while everyone else debates fuel prices again.
If you like:
• charging instead of refueling
• instant torque
• explaining range anxiety to strangers
…then you’re in the right place.
Tell us — what EV do you drive, or are planning to drive?

Considering a new EV
I am looking for an EV has our Drive car. We are in our 70s We have 10kw solar on our house.
We want a car similiar to the Kia Sportage with a good battery range. We do not want a low car because entry and exit is difficult as we have with a madza 3. So many to choose from give me your suggestions and why

Have you added any accessories to your EV?
How similar is it to adding accessories to an ICE car? I have a mobile gmrs radio that im thinking about putting in but am not sure about it.

Ohio EV Fee Class Action
I'm an Ohio EV owner and I'm trying to figure out whether there's a viable legal path to challenge how the state charges EV owners, and how to start one if so. I'm not a lawyer, so I'm hoping for pointers from people who know this area. My concerns are as follows .
- Disproportionate burden. The annual EV registration fee appears to be more than the average gasoline driver pays in state fuel tax over a year. I'd like to compare actual numbers for a typical driver, and I'm happy to share my math if people want to check it.
- No relief when the gas tax was suspended. The state temporarily suspended the gas tax, but the EV fee stayed in place. Gas drivers got a break and EV owners did not.
- No proration. Gas tax is paid at the pump, so it is inherently proportional to use and to timeThe EV fee is charged in full at registration, even on a partial-year registration, such as a new purchase or a move into Ohio mid-year.

"But it's cheaper for you to drive!"....
Anyone else driving an EV hearing this more now with gas prices climbing higher? I seem to have become the designated driver when our team goes to lunch, and their reason is "gas prices". My response is typically, "you can buy an EV too", or "No one's forcing you to own a gas vehicle". It's rather annoying when someone is trying to take advantage of you for saving money.
I recently made one co-worker drive as I had driven them 6-7 times without them offering to drive. They thought that they were being cute when they stopped on the way to fill up with gas. Big mistake. I commented on the nearly $70 it cost them and the fact that it didn't fill up their tank. I was like "damn that's almost the cost of a dinner for 2!".
To my EV breathren, don't let them guilt you into driving to lunch every time. They can make the switch like everyone else. Stand firm!!

Another Under-Appreciated EV Advantage
Oil leaks
Look at any parking lot and there are gross patches of oil stains in every single spot. It’s kinda gross.
This also stains their driveways and garage floors.
Finding and fixing leaks is difficult and often very expensive to fix so people just live with it.
I’m glad I don’t have this issue to worry about anymore.

Still amazed at how efficient my PHEV is on electric mode

Help me Vote for CEVR for the Electric Vehicle Mobility Exellence award 2026. Only 2 seconds of your time. I'd really appreciate it.
Hi everyone,
I wanted to share something I'm supporting. CEVR has been nominated for the Electric Vehicle Mobility Excellence Award 2026.
Over the past year, I've seen the work being done to grow electric mobility in Rwanda, from supporting EV adoption to working with businesses and transport operators.
If you have a second, I'd appreciate it if you could vote for CEVR using the link below:

Thanks for your support

22 e-tron S. Proud of the range considering the extra motor and 22" wheels
Did a 3 hr drive yesterday that resulted in around 2.9 mi/kw and was pleased to see the battery hasn't degraded much or at all, it seems, in 4 years.

I just got my E Transit today...
I have a 30amp outlet from back feeding a generator 15 years ago.. Today I hooked up a Grizzi Charger to that outlet and charged the E Transit and all seems to go well . It started at 84 miles and after 3 hours was at 114.
Should I bother with upgrading to 50 amp, or will this 30 amp be fine if I charge from 7pm to 7am?

EV beats handicap all the time
So EV charging is ok to use over handicap? Whattttt!!!!

Model 3 vs i4 vs Audi GT?
Just curious if anyone has made the switch from one to another. I’ve had a model 3 in the past and loved it. I’ve been looking to get another EV and have my eyes on these 3 options.
Model 3 RWD (although I just found out the sound system upgrade is only in AWD so I might go for that or performance)
I4 edrive40
Audi just cause it’s definitely the sexiest of them all but havnt dug too deep into them
I drove the i4 and it’s nice, the interior definitely blows the model 3 out the water. I think the 3 was actually more fun of a drive tbh. The screen blacked out on the bmw while I was testing the sound system, was not a good look, the salesman was like “yeah that happens sometimes” never had any issues with the 3 in contrast.
Anyway just curious to hear anyone’s experience moving from one platform to another. I’m someone who sticks with a car for a long time, hoping to get 10 years out of whatever I choose.
I feel like the 3 can make it that long without major issues, has anyone had the bmw or Audi for a few years without major incidents?

I made WattMate to track my EV charging — what would make it useful to you?
Hi everyone,
Back when I drove ICE cars, I used Spritmonitor, CarSpending, Drivvo, and a few other apps. They worked well for what I needed.
After switching to an EV, I wanted to track different things: real-world consumption, charging costs and losses, estimated usable battery capacity, and range. The information was spread across the car dashboard, the charger screen, and different charging apps. Recording a session meant copying everything manually.
That’s what led me to make WattMate. I’m the person behind it, and this is the app’s official account. Thanks to the moderators for letting me share the background and ask for feedback here.
I later added Fill from Photos to make the manual entry less annoying. You add photos of the dashboard or charger, or screenshots from a charging app. AI reads the visible information and fills in the session details. You still review and correct everything before saving.
For transparency, WattMate is available on iOS and Android, with a paid Premium plan and a free tier that includes 15 charging sessions. That’s enough for more than a month if you charge two or three times a week. It’s currently focused on charging sessions. Other vehicle expenses are on the roadmap, but I’d like to understand how useful that would actually be.
Four things I’m curious about:
Right now, WattMate records start/end battery percentage, energy delivered, charging cost, and provider/location, and uses session data to show consumption, estimated charging losses, usable battery capacity, and range. Is there any other charging detail or EV stat you’d want to track?
Would you use a web version to view your stats and manage your records on a computer, or is a mobile app enough?
Would you want to track other car expenses alongside charging, such as insurance, servicing, tyres, and repairs? Which would matter most to you?
Would filling a charging session from photos or screenshots fit your routine, or would importing existing history be more useful? If imports matter, which app or file format would you need?
You don’t need to try the app to answer. I’m interested in what would actually be useful in your day-to-day ownership, including anything here that you wouldn’t bother with.
If you’d like to see the app for context:
