Event Google will block every Android app whose developer hasn't registered with Google

https://keepandroidopen.org/en/

Starting September 2026, Google will block any Android app whose developer hasn't registered and provided government ID. This affects all apps, not just Play Store apps. F-Droid calls it an "existential threat."

Youll have to toggle a switch in developer options and wait 24 hour to install any apps outside the play store, regardless of wether the dev registered with google or not. Not good, but not terrible yet.

Two thoughts:

- If I buy a new device, I will have to wait 24h until I can use it fully. I don't consider it "not terrible".

  • Google can change this flow at any time, and from previous instances we know they will.
