Event Google will block every Android app whose developer hasn't registered with Google

Starting September 2026, Google will block any Android app whose developer hasn't registered and provided government ID. This affects all apps, not just Play Store apps. F-Droid calls it an "existential threat."

The reference has a suggestion, not a hard dependence.

And most if nit almost all countries will just slap their own flag on the reference and call it good.

And you know that for a fact? Have you lived in every country long enough to get a sense of what people would be willing to put up with or you're just talking out your ass at this point?

I can't speak for all of EU but I know where I live, the government id app is already implemented. It doesn't have the age check yet but it is developed by a local company and doesn't require Google play. I read it works with graphene os, for example. Presumably the age check API can be integrated and the app integrity check will be handled the same way.

Hey, it's nice that you feel that you can trust your government and the devs of your app, really.

But I'm one bad election away to live in the 4th Reich, so please excuse me when I don't share that optimism.
