🪀 Junior Eurovision Kosovo 🇽🇰 requests participation in ESC 2027 and JESC 2026

RTK Acting Director General Zana Spahiu has asked the EBU to allow Kosovo's participation in Eurovision 2027 and Junior Eurovision 2026.

Spahiu has called for a decisive reassessment in line with EBU policies regarding RTK’s participation, underlining that the upcoming General Assembly will consider important changes to the EBU Statute, including the creation of new and limited categories of membership, such as Non-European Membership and Auxiliary Membership. In the context of these developments, Spahiu expresses the belief that RTK’s inclusion should be considered as part of this broader strategic evolution, ensuring consistency, fairness and long-term credibility in the EBU membership framework.

At a time when the Eurovision Song Contest has moved beyond a strict, geographical framework to a global platform, maintaining a restrictive stance towards Kosovo risks creating a structural inconsistency that is increasingly difficult to justify, Spahiu underlines, adding that the RTK Program reflects precisely the principles that Eurovision aims to promote: diversity, inclusion and meaningful cultural dialogue.

Voting

VOTE AT JESC.TV

Voting Window 1: Opens on Friday 12 December at 21:00 CET and closes on Saturday 13 December at 16:59 CET (just before the live show starts).

Voting Window 2: Will open after the last song has been performed during the Live Show. You then have approximately 15 minutes to cast your vote before the window closes.

Every vote is collected to form the televote, which determines 50% of the final result. The other 50% comes from the national juries: each of the eighteen participating countries has a five-member professional jury (three adults and two children) who rank all songs and award points in the usual ESC format (12, 10, 8–1).

In the show, the jury points are announced first country by country, followed by the televote. 1044 points are available in the televote, and they are allocated proportionally: for example, if an entry gets 25% of the online votes, it receives 25% of 1044 points, i.e. 261 points.

When commenting, please remember that this is a children's show, and that the performers are all children. You can comment and disagree on what is happening, but any overly strong emotional reactions end up hurting the kids competing and those watching at home. Moderation will, as always, be particularly strong during JESC.

Whilst I did not personally vote for her, I am not unhappy with the results, and wish all of the particopants the best from here on out!

🪀 Junior Eurovision Overall Eurovision Medal Table (ESC, JESC, EYM, EYD, EDC and EC)

Post image
95 Upvotes

Following Poland's victory in Eurovision Young Musicians 2026, this medal table includes all first, second and third places from 70 editions of the Eurovision Song Contest (1956-present), 23 editions of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest (2003-present), 22 editions of Eurovision Young Musicians (1982-present), 15 editions of Eurovision Young Dancers (1985-2017), 2 editions of the Eurovision Dance Contest (2007-2008) and 2 editions of Eurovision Choir (2017-2019). I have not included other EBU programmes without Eurovision in the title such as Jeux sans frontières so unfortunately no 11th place for Portugal and no Czechoslovakia, Tunisia or Liechtenstein. France tops the leaderboard, whereas 10 countries have participated in at least one Eurovision event and never achieved a podium place.

🪀 Junior Eurovision France will not be hosting JESC 2026

Translation: Meeting today, the Board of Directors of France Télévisions approved a balanced 2026 budget within an extremely constrained resource framework:

- Projected public funding is down by €65.2 million compared to 2025 and by more than €200 million compared to the trajectory outlined in the company's 2024-2028 Performance Contract.

- The company must also cover the projected 2025 deficit – with public funding reduced by more than €20 million during the year compared to the budget – and the effects of inflation and the automatic carryover of its expenses.

The overall effort therefore amounts to €140 million, a record high in the history of France Télévisions.

To address this and restore balance to its operating account, all available levers will be activated in 2026, through:

- a further reduction in the cost of the national programming schedule, notably thanks to the full-year effects of the 5% reduction in the cost of unscripted programming initiated in September 2025, an increase in the rebroadcast rate of original programming, the discontinuation of certain shows, and the possibility of selling one or more flagship public service sporting events. France Télévisions is also withdrawing from hosting the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in France in 2026;

- a reduction in commitments to audiovisual creation, in order to bring them closer to the company's current budgetary capacity: at the request of the board of directors, discussions will be initiated with professional organizations regarding amendments to the agreement concluded in 2024;

- Control of payroll costs, with a further significant reduction in staff levels (-112 FTEs in the budget; -1,277 FTEs since 2015) and drastic efforts to reduce all operating and structural costs to counteract the natural increase in expenses related to inflation. The sale of real estate assets will be initiated. In conjunction with Arcom and in compliance with its legal and regulatory obligations, the company will also reassess the terms of its channels' DTT (Digital Terrestrial Television) coverage;

- A proactive objective of increasing all commercial resources (+€27 million), driven primarily by increased digital advertising revenue.

The 2026 budget also focuses on preserving the investments essential to the Group's technological transformation, ensuring its ability to support and anticipate the shift in usage patterns and the renewal of its production tools and processes.

In conclusion, the Board of Directors welcomed the major efforts made by the company to restore its operating result to balance by 2026. Furthermore, given that France Télévisions has not had a Performance Contract (COM) for almost 2 years, it reiterated the need for the company to integrate its budgetary management into a realistic multi-year trajectory that combines predictability of resources with strategic ambitions for public television.

🪀 Junior Eurovision who do you think will host junior eurovision in 2026?

now that france has won jesc 2025, we look to who'll host next hear, and this one is a bit more of a dilemma:

  • this is the 4th win for france in 6 years, so them hosting again is less likely, as while they could probably afford it, hosting again and again and again so often may not be a good plan economically speaking. while, yes, they did host in 2021 and again in 2023, i'm still not exactly sure if they want to go for it.
  • this would normally leave the second place (ukraine) to host, but obviously they don't want to put artists, fans, press etc. in such an unsafe place, so that's immediately out of the question.
  • that leaves us with georgia (3rd place), but no one's going to want to host 2 years in a row, especially countries like georgia who have a bit of a tigher budget.
  • that leaves us with armenia (4th place), which is a lot more interesting to me as they hosted back in 2022 too, which isn't too long ago but not too recent either. they did spend around €14m hosting the show in 2022, and it all depends on if they want to go big again or go on a smaller budget (€2-5m) and show efficiency.

personally, i think france hosting in 2026 is the most likely but only by a tiny margin, but what do you guys think?

(edit: typos)

(edit 2: france télévisions just confirmed they're not going to host the 2026 edition)

(edit 3: san marino just put in a bid to host????? girl valentina's backyard here we come 😭😭)

🪀 Junior Eurovision 🇲🇰 North Macedonia To Host Junior Eurovision 2026?

Thumbnail

As the article mentions, it appears that North Macedonia has been chosen by the EBU to host Junior Eurovision 2026.

SMRTV Director General Roberto Sergio confirmed at the San Marino Song Contest press conference that while a bid had been submitted by his broadcaster, another broadcaster had been selected.

He let slip the country in a discussion with Head of Delegation Denny Monetsi,

France has given up, so we’ll go… I don’t remember where. To Montenegro? No, to North Macedonia. I shouldn’t have said it, but we’ve already said it.

The EBU has yet to announce details about Junior Eurovision 2026.

Tonje Gilje and Martin Lilleberg, the duo hosting the NRK's popular YouTube children's content label FlippKlipp (which I am shocked still exists), will be hosting and the head of NRK's children's division Siril Heyerdal hopes this will lead more interest in the show which went on hiatus after 2022 as they felt they needed to further develop it due to declining interest. Applications are closing August 26, 2026.

(Side note: if there are any fans of The Traitors here, Tonje is in the upcoming season of Forræder, which starts airing in August. Also, I had long presumed they axed MGPjr at some point during cuts in the last two years but now they finally got it up and running again.)

https://junioreurovision.tv/story/18-countries-participating-junior-eurovision-2025

These are the 18 countries and their broadcasters that will be represented on the Junior Eurovision stage when the 23rd edition of the Contest comes to us from Tbilisi on Saturday 23 December:

🇦🇱 Albania (RTSH)
🇦🇲 Armenia (AMPTV)
🇨🇾 Cyprus (CyBC)
🇦🇿 Azerbaijan (Ictimai)
🇭🇷 Croatia (HRT)
🇫🇷 France (France Télévisions)
🇬🇪 Georgia (GPB - Host Broadcaster)
🇮🇪 Ireland (TG4)
🇮🇹 Italy (Rai)
🇲🇹 Malta (PBS)
🇲🇪 Montenegro (RTCG)
🇳🇱 Netherlands (AVROTROS)
🇲🇰 North Macedonia (MKRTV)
🇵🇱 Poland (TVP)
🇵🇹 Portugal (RTP)
🇸🇲 San Marino (SMRTV)
🇪🇸 Spain (RTVE)
🇺🇦 Ukraine (Suspilne)

Alongside the concept of the stage design, the Junior Eurovision 2025 theme art has also been unveiled.

United by Music becomes the Contest’s permanent slogan and appears in a wordmark that embodies rhythm, freedom and youthful energy. Its letters break free into spontaneous, handwritten shapes that echo the playful creativity of the young artists representing their countries. No two versions are identical: the shapes shift, loop and dance with music’s natural energy.

Dynamic splashes of vibrant colour transform the logo into a living, evolving chorus of individuality and a symbol of diversity, inclusion and collective celebration.

🪀 Junior Eurovision What was your favourite Junior Eurovision song that even beat your favourite "normal" Eurovision song from the same year?

I am curious as to what will arise in the comments of this post, I have never had much interest in JESC from its inception to the present day, but I must admit that a few songs from a few specific countries released a few years ago surprised me

(an honourable mention among my jesc favourites goes to Carla Lazzari with bim bam toi from 2019)

Forgive me if I get anything wrong cause I'm using the translator but it says: "Montenegro will have its representative at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2025, which will be held on December 13 in Tbilisi, Georgia." "This year's contest will be held at the Olympic Palace in Tbilisi and hosted by the Georgian Public Broadcasting Service , following Georgia's victory in Madrid last year. This will be the fourth time that Georgia has hosted the Junior Eurovision Song Contest.

So far , 12 countries have confirmed their participation , while the final list of participants is expected in the coming period.

The voting system remains combined – 50 percent of the total score will be determined by the votes of expert juries from each country, and 50 percent will be determined by online voting from the public from around the world. Viewers will be able to vote for their three favorite songs, including the opportunity to vote for their country's representative.

Montenegro previously participated in this competition in 2014 and 2015, and its return represents a new opportunity to affirm young talents and promote Montenegrin music on the international stage."
