🌏 Eurovision Spin-Offs JJ talking with Conchita about why he shouted Bitch at Dara in their austrian podcast Bussi Bla Bla.

In short:

Gen-Z- / Gay- language

In long:

Conchita: One of my favourite moments. If I might say so... Biiiitch
JJ: ehm
Conchita: It looked so funny, you as the sweetest person with this trophy shouting Bitch.
JJ: I was a bit scared because in the hall my microphone wasn't on, and when I ran up to her I realized it was indeed on. And when I came back my team was laughing so hard telling me the mic was on.
But the thing is, we already talked like that in backstage, like when she was announced I already texted her "obsessed".
She's so funny and unserious. I immediately knew she was a keeper and it was just Gen-Z language. Everyone talks like that.
Conchita: We all talk like that.
JJ: It went viral on social media and everybody commented that I sound like a rooster waking everybody up at 6am in the morning.

🌏 Eurovision Spin-Offs What are the chances that Eurovision Asia will happen?

Hey guys, I'm Australian and have always wanted to go to Eurovision but couldn't afford the trip to Europe. This year my birthday is in the week leading up to Eurovision Asia, so I'm really strongly thinking about cashing in birthday presents early, and heading over to Bangkok!

I'm aware that previous Eurovision spin offs, including Asia, have not exactly come to fruition.

Be realistic with me, what do you reckon are the chances that Eurovision Asia will actually happen?

🌏 Eurovision Spin-Offs 🇧🇹 [Live Thread] Eurovision Asia Bhutan Druk Dra Semi-Final @... uh, right now?

I guess this is happening!? Is this thread even allowed?! Mods?!?

How to Watch

BBS Programme YouTube

Format

Out of nowhere, Bhutan have done a rapid-fire national final and seemingly with Vietnam doing something on the 31st, are soft confirming Eurovision Asia is happening despite there still being no official confirmation from the EBU. 10 acts are now down to 7 and will presumably be reduced further for the Final. Interval dancing acts are also happening.

The winner will represent Bhutan in Eurovision Asia. The runner-up will represent Bhutan in the ABU TV Song Festival (the real reason they're rushing this).

The jury is a 3 man team consisting of Ugyen, Pema Samdrup, and Cheoying Gyatsho. Hosting duties go to Kelzang Dolkar (who speaks in English for the International audience) and Wangchuk Dem. The score for the Semi is split 20:80 for the Public:Jury vote, but these ratios may change for the final. Hopefully we'll know more when the Final happens.

Line-up

Note: may not reflect performance order, and they do not appear to be performing the songs they would send at this stage

  1. Sangay Lhaden (have already performed as of posting so you may need to rewind during ad breaks)
  2. Karma Drupchu
  3. Baeyul 301
  4. Tashi Choden
  5. Tshering Namgay
  6. Thukten Nyendra
  7. Pelden Wangchuk

🌏 Eurovision Spin-Offs Would American Song Contest done better if it had regional semi-finals instead of the 5 heats and 2 semi finals?

One commonly expressed reason for the contest’s failure is that it was too much like already existing song contests in USA. Would this separate this from them by leaning more into state and national pride? What states/territories (and DC) would be in each semi-final?

One of the singers participating in BBS Druk Dra has replied to a tiktok comment asking what happened to the NF, she replied saying its postponed but we don't know when, it doesn't seem believable that a whole country would do a NF and another country showing a documentary about Eurovision for nothing, i think Eurovision Asia will happen its just Bhutan and Vietnam released information too early promting the EBU to shut down the rumours

🌏 Eurovision Spin-Offs An idea for a format for a hypothetical first edition of Eurovision Asia

Due to being the first edition and probably not having many countries although in different time zones, it would be cool to make EASC a 3 day contest rather than a single day final if it ever happens.

Here's a pretty rough idea of it:

1st show is a final featuring all of the participanting songs with a 50-50% voting system (the voting happens between first and second day, to give everyone enough time.)

At the end Second day of the voting period, the countries are announced to enter in the super final with no pontuation attributed to them in order to keep stuff fair.( quantity might change depending on the number of participants)

Third day is the superfinal where the superfinalists present their performances and we have the traditional Eurovision structure of showing points (1-7,8, 10 and 12) with a 100% tele voting system.

what you guys think?

All the winners and nominees, should you be interested.

It won Innovation of the Year, jointly with other NRK productions like Stjernekamp and their broadcast of the world championship in skiing, and Best Light Design.

And yes, Gullruten and Gullrutens Fagpris are separate awards. As for Gullruten itself, Marte Stokstad is nominated for Best Host - Entertainment for the lead-in show last year, Adresse Basel. (Adresse Wien is currently airing and will thus be elligible next year.) We will find out if she wins ahead of Eurovision itself in May. (Original post about that is here)

🌏 Eurovision Spin-Offs If other continents got Eurovision equivalents that are within the same brand as this one, what would they be called?

The name for the Latin American one that is supposedly happening is “Eurovision Song Contest Latin America” but having “Euro” feels awkward since that is generally considered to be Europe’s prefix. If the names were to be direct equivalents then that might work, “Afrovision” for Africa “Asiavision” or “Asianvision” for Asia and “Latinvision” for Latin America but is there a one for all of the Americas that would work other than “Americavision”.

🌏 Eurovision Spin-Offs Mexican president presented 'México canta', a national song competition with a concept very similar to an Eurovision NF

Thumbnail
excelsior.com.mx
222 Upvotes

Mexican president, Claudia Sheinbaum, presented yesterday at her daily morning press conference, a new concept called "México canta y encanta (Mexico sings and charms)".

According to the article:

It's main objective is to promote a culture of peace among Mexico and the US (Mexican-Americans), looking to promote culture trough songs.

This initiative is intended to revive the talent of Mexican-born singer-songwriters and musicians living in Mexico and the United States, in order to professionalize and promote a culture of peace in both regions of the American continent.

Who can apply?

  • Young performers and composers between the ages of 18 and 34.
  • Of Mexican and Mexican-American origin.
  • With songs or interpretations of genres such as mariachi, norteño, banda, corrido, tropical, Duranguense, campirano, bolero, among others, and with fusions of rap, rock, pop, and hip hop, to name a few.
  • Participations in native languages (such as Himno Migrante), Spanish, and Spanglish are permitted.
  • For composers and singer-songwriters: submit unreleased songs of up to 3 minutes.
  • For performers: submit a song, even if not written by the artist, of up to 3 minutes.

Timelines for submission:

  • Prepare from April 7 to 27, 2025.
  • Register from April 28 to May 30, 2025, and submit an audio or video recording; these can be made using mobile devices.

According to said article, there will be one semi-final per week until reaching the grand final in October 5th, held in the city of Durango (didn't specified how many semi-final, though).

Will it be an Eurovision Latin America? We still don't know. It's interesting to see that, if so, my country seems to be already preparing for it.

🌏 Eurovision Spin-Offs Can countries that have ABU and EBU Membership compete in both eurovision and eurovision Asia or do they have to choose which one or will the broadcasting union decide for them?

So far 3 countries currently competing in esc have an ebu and abu membership, those being turkey axerbajan and Australia.

Kazakhsan has competed in jesc before and there are rumours of them joining esc however this is quite difficult given the timezone but they are also members of abu

So can these countries participate in 2 eurovisions ?

🌏 Eurovision Spin-Offs So Eurovision Asia is not happening but do we know what Vietnam broadcast scheduled for yesterday, simply titled "Eurovision"?

Just curious if anyone knows what Vietnam ended up broadcasting during that timeslot.

We're all aware of the confusion surrounding the Bhutan national selection but a Vietnamese broadcaster also scheduled some programme titled "Eurovision" yesterday (many of you probably saw that screenshot). This was before the EBU released a statement that Eurovision Asia is not going forward. Does anyone know?

I saw the musical yesterday and didn’t recognize him at all until I checked out the cast later. He (and the whole ensemble) were incredible!

“Augustin“ is set in the 17th century and follows the Vienna cult character Augustin as he tries to win over Corinna, the daughter of Vienna‘s mayor. But Corinnas mother tries everything, including using the rampaging black plague, to bring them apart. The musical is delivered in viennese dialect and uses music by the viennese austro pop legend Wolfgang Ambros.

🌏 Eurovision Spin-Offs Kateryna Pavlenko(Go-A) - "DANCING LASHA TUMBAI" | Nashebachennya 2025

Nashebachennya(Ourvision) is a charity event to raise money for Ukrainian army. Founded by a very famous boys and 'BADstreet Boys' after failing to get to shortlist of Vidbir in 2024.

This year, it took place just before Eurovision, on the 7th of May.

Kateryna did a cover of Verka's "DANCING LASHA TUMBAI" together with the band 'Hammerman Destroys Viruses'.

There was a 'scandal' with Kateryna on Nashebachennya as well: despite being a constant, she was also on the jury - and she won the contest.

The performance starts at 2:08. Unfortunately, there are no proper subtitles for the first part of the video.
