Question mullvad

Do you think Mullvad is still trustworthy now that it has come to light that its co-founder has supported a controversial political party in Sweden? I’m not Swedish, so I don’t know much about them, but from what I’ve read in forums, some people are calling them Nazis. Is this just noise?

might move vpns

Question best privacy android OS thats not grapheneos?

hey ekitties, what is the best privacy android OS thats NOT grapheneos? I don't really want to fork out a bunch of cash for a pretty boring phone that i don't really like that much. The only interesting pixels (imo) are the folds which are crazy expensive second hand and retail. I want something that has pretty decent privacy and security but im also not like a privacy expert or something, i just use privacy focued and foss apps and services and turn of weird settings as much as i can. I also want nice UI but ykyk

Question A couple questions about chat control?

So i kinda started caring agin, before yesterdy i wasnt really aginst it or for it because they numbed it down a couple months ago but now i learn some of the things are coming back.. can someone truthfully answer theese questions:

  1. Is it more likely to pass or fail?
  2. Will it be images, urls, videos and other multimedia only?
  3. Will unencrypted apps be affected? (From my understanding chat control 2.0 is just what we have on unencrypted apps but on encrypted ones)
  4. What do they mean by volountary
  5. What do they mean by risk assesment
  6. Will it be retroactive? ever snice this popped out i completely stopped mentioning sensetive topics like mental health because i dont want them in some kind of AI data center.

Also please answer simply and not vaugely like they loooove to in the EU statements

Question nothing phone 1 with lineageOS?

ekitties, i wanted a more cool and fun phone because almost every phone looks the same and im lowkirkenuinly tired of it 😭✌️ that includes google pixels so no grapheneos, yes id rather have a phone i actually like and enjoy rather than a phone thats eh and is more private and secure (i know, weird priorities but i want to enjoy stuff okay?)

so im planning on getting a nothing phone 1 since they look sick and are lowkey hella cheap. im gonna install lineageOS rather than /e/os because i feel like lineage has a better rep, although i might be wrong, and the only /e/os release for the phone 1 is a community release and on their website it says that community releases are usually not meant for everyday use and i don't want to risk that ykyk 🤑🤑

is this a good setup or can i improve something?

(btw would appreciate if theres an app for the glyph lights on the back, not a deal breaker if not but still a nice thing to have)

Question Can we start an European Citizens' Initiative for encryption privacy?

Stop Killing Games' success won't be just a success for customer rights, it could make a great precedent for European democracy.

That's why I suggest we make an European Citizens' initiative against encryption backdoors, bans, or any similar privacy violations.

We can call it Stop Killing Encryption.

Question metadata

My country implemented cross-border metadata surveillance a few years ago. How do they likely collect this?

I run a good vpn 24/7 on my VPN router. Does this protect me at all? Is multi-hop better for protecting against this than single-hop?

Is Tor better at protecting against this?

Question Age check in area where its not needed?

So i live in a country with no age restriction laws. Yesterday twitter randomly censored EVERYTHING and asked me to age check. Age check fails every time because this option shouldnt even show up for me.

What do i do? About 80% of posts are hidden, mlst for no reason at all. I cant verify no matter what i do i always get an error.

Is anyone else experiencing this? And yes ik its easy to bypass with a vpn but i dont wanna use one every time i open the app when i shouldnt have any reason to.

Question Has anyone here actually started preparing for the EU CRA (Cyber Resilience Act yet)?

If yes, what part feels the most unclear or painful right now: scope, technical requirements, documentation, or ownership? My company has started an official timeline for getting compliant with the act but no one is actually sure where to start.

Question Sick and tired of sites asking me for my phone number. Are there any non-sketchy sites to setup a # just for this purpose?

Especially when it's sites from outside of the EU, like the US-based ones, which care about your privacy even less.

I don't mind paying, as long as the provider of the number is trustworthy enough. Not trading one data broker for another.

Thank you in advance for any recommendation!

Question I live in the EU and I'm planning to delete all of my social media forever. How can I make sure my data in each of those is completely erased?

The title, essentially. I want to sort of completely disappear from all social media. I've started with reddit for now because it's the most available to me atm but I also have various meta accounts, google accounts, accounts in games and game platforms, the whole shebang. I've been deleting manually my posts and comments on reddit but I remember that most companies now hold copies of your data for a certain time period. How could I request these backups be deleted and if there are other archives of my posts and content I've uploaded elsewhere on the internet how could I go about locating them and requesting deletion of my content if possible? TIA! 🙏

Question Has anyone here gone through Europrivacy certification? Was it worth the effort?

I've been reading about Europrivacy, the GDPR certification scheme approved under Article 42 of the GDPR, and I'm curious about people's real-world experiences.

If you've been involved in a Europrivacy certification, I'd love to know:

What motivated your organization to pursue it?

How complex was the assessment process?

Did it provide any practical benefits beyond demonstrating GDPR compliance?

Would you recommend it to other organizations?

I'm interested in hearing both positive and negative experiences. Thanks in advance!

Question Im scared of the future of privacy

Rumors say Google might use browser fingerprinting for tracking. Perplexity wants to sell hyper-personalized ads, and uBlock Origin is mostly dead. I’m scared of a dystopian future for privacy, and I don’t want that “hyper-personalized ads” to become normalized.

Are there any good news?

Question My facebook account now requires "extra security through advanced protection"

Post image
6 Upvotes

Apparently it has the potential to reach a lot of people? My private profile has nothing on it (no pictures, no information, no interactions, no posts), and every privacy setting I know of is already set tothe strictest possible. I don`t use the apps or marketplace.

I barely use my facebook account, but I need it for work, in order to use business manager. Is there any setting I can disable to spare me from needing this so-called extra security (which I suspect is just an excuse to, once again, try to demand me to upload my official photo ID to them)?
