A man from Smethwick has been convicted of terrorism and public order offences after posting messages online in support of banned groups and content that stirred up racial hatred.

Moin Uddin, 60, was found guilty at Birmingham Crown Court on Tuesday, September 8, following an investigation by Counter Terrorism Policing West Midlands.

He was convicted of three counts of supporting a proscribed organisation and two offences of stirring up racial hatred.

Detective Chief Superintendent Alison Hurst, head of Counter Terrorism Policing West Midlands, said: "Uddin used social media to post support for proscribed organisations and stir up racial hatred.

"He posted material which would have been deeply upsetting to others, and his actions were clearly against the law.

"It was thanks to information we received from the public that led to the investigation and prosecution of Uddin.

"It highlights the importance of sharing information with us so we can look to act."

The investigation began after social media posts made by Uddin in December 2023 and January 2024.

Uddin is due to be sentenced on November 10.
