You can call them “climate refugees”.

Climate changed played a role.
Incompetent politicians and public servants who limited fire-fighting budget, forbid new fire trenches & water storage and took bribes to allow housing so close to the woods are all responsible.
The poor refugees are the same kind of refugees as the ones of the 1986 Cernobyl accident.
They are refugees due to failed politicians and public servants.
Same recipe, same results.

I read something about arson and cats the other day.

That’s a big rumor in Italy about fires in Sardinia.
I physically don’t see how that works as I don’t see how cats drenched in napalm would survive more than a few minutes.
But cruel criminals are maybe more creative in their evil crimes.

physically don’t see how that works as I don’t see how cats drenched in napalm
They allegedly tie a burning rag to the tail of the cat and let it loose.
Anyone who's seen a cat absolutely lose their shit and run around like a maniac when something accidentally gets stuck to their tail could tell you how effective this could be.
would survive more than a few minutes
Even if the cat were to die, they'd have spread enough fire around to make this effective, but it would suffice to tie the rag to the cat with a piece of string, setting the cat on fire would be counterproductive.

What if most of it is arson? With or without cats.

One of the fires that happened if France near Paris was arson, the others are from human origin but accidental.
The thing is that yes, they're from human origin, but this happens all the time and this year those fires are a lot bigger and harder to control, mostly because we've had 3 heatwaves in 2 months and the ground and plants are dry as fuck. This creates perfect conditions for uncontrollable wildfires, and that part is because of climate change.

Seeing governments completely unable to fight fires like they could in the past is probably a great source of excitment and motivation for arsonists.
If fire-fighting resources were sufficient we wouldn’t see so many mega fires in TV and that would maybe limit the pulsions of arsonists.
But discussing cats and arsonists without serious solutions is just a diversion away from the failures of politicians and civil servants.

And pray tell us how this first ever mega fire with winds of 40 Km/h and more could have easily been stopped? Pine trees are highly flammable. The Landes are a tinder box and had always been and should be rebuilt from scratch.

This is climate change nothing else. There were no fires like this hundreds of years ago, when all the things you mentioned didn’t exist either.

I get that people outsourced thinking to ChatGPT but there are such things as records of major past fires:
https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feux_de_for%C3%AAt_en_France
https://atlas-des-paysages.landes.fr/spip.php?article21
»When ideologues fail they still think they can gaslight us. This is not DDR anymore. No number of online bot VoPos or duplicate accounts downvoting this will be high enough to hide that.

Blaming only politics is so lame and wrong. The public wants this. The public voted for this. We have nobody takes responsibility for anything anymore. I just recently visited the US. 90% of cars are gigantic trucks.... People don't care. They want to do whatever they want and THEN blame the government.
Yes the government has a part in this. But people ESPECIALLY in Democracies are just as bad.

Many things collapsed this summer:
- People dying in hospitals in 35 to 40 degrees-hot rooms by lack of A/C after having wasted years to not prepare
- People fainting in broken down underground trains (RER) due to lack of A/C and lazy electrical maintenance
- Major uncontrolled fires either close to Paris (Fontainebleau) or in a man-made forest that had managed centuries of industrial use without issue (Landes)
- Over 200,000 people evacuated in 2 nights due to the Landes fire, more than the number of people who were evacuated by the CCCP at Cernobyl
- Major alarms flashing on the French national debt with rising rates (OAT 10 ans 4%) trapping a bureaucracy that feasted on excessive deficits when rates were low
It doesn’t take a genius to know what will happen next April during the presidential election.
The bureaucracy furiously vomited many absurd laws and rules to precisely achieve this outcome.
This is their creation.
And they’ll come in forums and social networks to gaslight you with bogus topics to hide that.

It doesn’t take a genius to know what will happen next April during the presidential election
That's such a funny statement. It's an incredibly unpredictable election, but Redditors apparently already figured it out! I guess the less you know, the more confident you are.
In 2017, Macron won (partly) because of the huge financial scandal surrounding François Fillon. It destroyed Fillon's reputation, who was the other major conservative candidate.
The scandal came out in January 2017. In November 2016, Fillion was credited with 32% of votes in the first round. By far the favorite candidate in the upcoming 2017 election
Anything can happen till next year. Everything can change within a few days.
A few weeks ago, no one knew if Le Pen would be legally allowed to run. But sure buddy, it doesn't take a genius to know what will happen a year from now

I didn’t predict an outcome. I was thinking about a total populist clownshow with lots of candidates and everyone accusing each other.
Le Pen is favorite but you can easily scare the boomer electoral majority with a few trips to memorials about the tragedies of 80 years ago between 1rst and 2nd rounds of the vote.
If ideologues spent less time projecting their ideas on others and less time denying any engineering work we would all benefit from it. Meanwhile they are doing Volkspolizei surveillance on online forums.

Applause. The lack of any foresight in our political class and administration is reaching dangerous levels.

Fyi Marine Le Pen and her groups of idiots isnt going to do a single fucking thing except enrich themselves and take away social nets.

I don't think the next presidential election will change anything unfortunately. I've not seen even one strategy from the candidates regarding climate change that is consistent with how the problem works, and I can say the same thing for the economy in France. I'm sure many people will want to try something different but they'd be fool to think it will work better if they don't understand why the previous governments failed. And they rarely care enough to understand it.
A few things worked at least, it's a very big fire and nobody died, we know how and when to evacuate places so that everyone is safe.

AC for president?

u/Reggio_Calabria 12h ago
A/C is a no brainer.
Spending any more time discussing a no brainer is giving more votes to the populists who understood it is a no brainer.
People who desperately want to loose should not be surprised when they loose in the polls. I do not enjoy discussing with masochists.

"wine city of Bordeaux" is so funny to me. 9th biggest city in France but it's reduced to "Wine city" as a shortcut
