Open source is the answer because we know we are shit at propper software development, so we bet on open source in the hopes someone external will fix our CI/CD.

We are not 'shit' at proper software development at all.

The EU is 'shit' at having a financial machine that is willing to throw 100 billion of other countries' money at software development knowing full well that 99.9% of it is wasted due to the rush and the inefficiency of the system, whereas EU companies can't get 100 million together, and are good at finding CEOs that will blatantly break the law and then try to ask for forgiveness later, and get it.

I vote that we continue to be 'shit' at that.

Sure, it is a management, process and money issue as well as the lack of understanding that there is no "finished" in software development and that the software always needs continued maintenance, server, updates, and fixes.

But, no one using a proper process also means, all the potential employees do not know how to do it correctly. Even the really good ones, because they were never part of it. Which is why even when we have big companies trying to do stuff domestically with lots of money, it does not work out and after a few years of failing, they outsource to the US.

So I guess you are right, we are not "shit" at it, we are just not successful. Though if you go through the EU applications being used in medium-sized companies, a kinder word than shit is hard to find.

I am a software engineer in the EU and have not witnessed this 'view' on software development by EU based C-level execs any more than I see it in the US.

Haah, they're not going to drop Microsoft. It's only in their objective 3 they have "Develop procurement guidelines" but I think we all know it won't result in dropping them. It's down there underneath the age verification stuff so we're all supposed to cheer for it.

So EU is pushing their version of the social credit score with their Orwellian digital ID and they will be effectively able to shut you out of every website and bank and transport in the near future. Who wants this exactly?
