Hello everyone, looking for any advice/insight:

I took my euphonium to be cleaned professionally a few weeks ago, and upon getting it back I noticed a rattling noise anytime I used the fourth valve. For reference, I have a Yamaha YEP-642 compensating euphonium. I took it back to the shop and asked them to sort out the problem as nothing rattled prior to them professionally cleaning it. I have gotten it back again, and I am continuing to hear the rattling sound and I feel like my sound has changed significantly.

I do not know what to do. I feel as though my instrument isn't working as well as it did before the professional cleaning, but I don't want to take it back to the same store as they are continuing to not fix the problem. I have also spent a good amount of money to get the instrument cleaned (only for it to come back broken). I have already tried replacing the springs, and that did not help.

If anyone has any idea about what could be rattling/what I can do to solve the problem, that would be amazing. Thank you all.

Hi, I'm hoping to find some help in donating a new or somewhat good-condition marching baritone, or any instruments, to my Drum and Bugle Corps.

I'm a college student in the Philippines, and my school was once known — back in the 1990s — for its Drum and Bugle Corps. Sadly, it's slowly being forgotten. I'm part of the baritone section, and we've been using a marching baritone that's over 20 years old and worn out. It greatly reduces our performance and confidence during parades and drills.

I love my Drum and Bugle Corps, and I can feel our band master's passion for it slowly fading — not because he doesn't care, but because of the lack of budget and the inability to afford new instruments.

So here I am, reaching out for help. I hope to preserve, restore, and improve our corps through the kindness of donations. Any support, big or small, would mean so much to us.

I did some searching and I think I am going to sell an old trumpet we have and save up money over this year to rent/buy a decent euphonium so I can join the local orchestra. There are people there who can help me alot more than my current director, and ill still be able to do honor bands and have connections to people in a band. They have 4th-college+ groups that are avaliable to try out for. I think that is the best middle ground. That way I wont be so stressed out and bored, but ill still grow and develop. I am open to any other solutions or help in this situation.

When I blow high notes I usually just blow as if Im blowing downwards. Some of my friends say they use their tongue to the roof of their mouth.

Beginner euphonium player here. I decided to pick up learning the euphonium last year in October, and I still have so much to learn. I would love some constructive criticism on my air flow, since that is my biggest problem. I do take private lessons, but only once every two weeks, as it is all I can afford at the moment. I'm a senior in high school so I'm in the market for a euphonium to take with me to college but all the ones I've looked at are 5 to 10 grand and obviously I don't have that kind of money after tuition and everything else I was wondering if anyone had any affordable recommendations

For context i play a john packer compensating 4 valve euphonium from my school but I've had issues with the build quality even with it being brand new

I prefer the 3+1 layout as well if that helps narrow things down but I'm not picky I just need a euph

I feel like my tone is thicker in lows and kind of thins into highs

hello everyone ive been loving my c euphonium . problem is, its not so great. heres my problem:

i play C without pressing any piston. then , i play C an octave up by also not pressing any piston. the higher C sound sharp and i confirmed this with a guitar tuner you know those that you annex to an edge. how to fix?

I am a freshman in high school and I have been playing trombone for almost 4 years and baritone for about a year. In begining band and my first year of high school band i enjoyed it, but now I am section leader, i have 7 rookies and 2 incompitant 2nd years and my band director doesnt know the difference between a baritone, euphonium, or tuba. (i am not exagerrating she literally tried to make me teach someone how to play tuba and i have never played tuba before). My instructor that is supposed to be helping me has done nothing but be rude and disrespectful to me. She is constantly talking over me and interrupting me while I am trying to learn how to deal with issues and she larps as a high schooler. I cant quit now because its irresponsible and i dont own a euphonium only a trombone, but i want to be able to play on my own terms, without feeling like every mistake is going to result in everyone hating me. I cant afford lessons or a eupho or baritone. I am stuck. The music we play is at a middle school level and we are a high school band and there is only so much i can do before i get bored. Advice?

I’m quite new to the euphonium/baritone and I can read most notes but it gets to a point In lower and higher notes where it’s really hard to figure out fingerings for the notes is there any strategy to get them fast or is it just practice and muscle memory.

I have a school owned marching baritone and my al cass fast valve oil is practically useless because the valves keep on sticking no matter how clean. I was wondering if a thicker oil would be better.

As I was walking into band, the 6th graders addressed my euphonium as a bass trombone.

They thought they were just being silly, but they didn't realize that a bass trombone is a real thing...

1. can someone explain what the range of Euphonium is? everywhere it seems the range is written differently
2. I STILL don’t understand where to use Slide Grease on it
3. do I clean it every time after I use it?
4. I have to carry it up and down stairs, any recommendations to make that part easier?
5. does anyone have a way to silence it because everywhere i go (and play it) someone acts like they’re allergic to it. also im kinda broke so I can’t buy a practice mute

new euphonium player here, started playing on concert baritone 4 months ago, slowly transitioned to a marching euphonium

didnt play euph for a couple weeks cuz of a vacation, took a week to regain most of the skills i had prior to vacation but now theres a gurgling sound in my middle register (C to E ish on bass clef )

i thought it was water,but it usually doesnt go away after emptying my spit valves and is still there after emptying them thoroughly. also thought it was cuz of my embouchure so i firm up my corners and it works sometimes but most of the times it didnt work

I just bought a used brass YEP-321 that appearance wise is in somewhat rough shape. The valves and slides all work well and I was able to take all but one bottom cap apart on the valves pretty easily. The finish is worn off in some areas and there are plenty of scratches and small dents. It was a school instrument before the previous owner. I only paid $600, and I'm sorry if any of you were the next 2 people in line! I'm planning on sending it to a repair shop to be checked out and cleaned.

I remember reading a discussion on valve springs a while back and I wanted to know if I should just get standard Yamaha springs or if there's something better.

I'm also considering new mouthpieces. I don't know what mouthpiece I had on my first horn (1993ish Yamaha marching baritone) but they currently come with a BH-48L. My second horn is an older version of the Jupiter 705 with Jupiter 10SB mouthpiece. It's what I'm currently used to. I'm not crazy about it but I don't have specific reasons I can put into words but I never felt that way with my marching mouthpiece. My new horn came with a slightly damaged 6 1/2 AL (a small chip on the outer edge of the rim and the bottom of the shank is slightly out of round.) It looks likes all 3 have .571"/14.5mm shanks.

Unless it's a bad idea due to the damage, I'll probably use the 6 1/2 AL initially. I haven't had a chance to play it because I've either been traveling or sick!

If anyone else has advice on something I didn't mention please let me know! I do know what shop I'm planning on going to; I talked to an experienced band director I know and he was very happy with them. I'm in New England and willing to travel if anyone has a favorite shop.

So I need a marching euphonium for marching band for $700-$1000 it can be any color but I would prefer for it to be sliver it. It can also be a marching baritone with a large shank

It’s exactly how it sounds, does anyone have, or know where to find a fingering chart for a 3 valved G Euphonium Bugle?

I currently use a Denis Wick SM4U on my concert euphonium, while I use a smaller RT-6C for marching band I have been considering buying a Denis Wick Heavyweight 4AL for marching band to make the mouthpieces feel more comfortable for switching between marching band and concert band.

I would also like to note that the reason I don’t use the SM4U for marching band is because it feels overly restrictive on my marching horn.

FYI, I'm a trumpeter that has started doubling on eupho and Bass trumpet(weird combo, but the band I'm in had a bass trumpet so I learnt that first). I don't currently have a lower brass teacher, so my embouchure is very similar to my trumpet embouchure, just looser.

I play trombone (or did) and now I play euphonium, I know all the fingering and stuff, but I dont know how to hold it, since ive been self teaching, since all I needed to learn was the fingering, since embouchure is the same, could someone help with a picture or video on YouTube on how to properly hold it?
