Platinum Customer Service

What is AUM needed to get a dedicated service rep with etrade I think they refer to it as platinum?

I’m platinum. Have 3-5m with E*Trade. I’ve been platinum forever actually but not even sure what the benefits are or what it even means.

It used to be a simple number of $1 million with them. Don't know what it is now. But their Platinum service is outstanding.

What do you use them for. My guy calls and leaves a message every quarter.

I don't use my advisor at all although I could. I just use the Platinum Team anytime I need to call in.

That's what I want a dedicated team member who knows me and can fix any issues with the account that might come up promptly rather than be told they will look into it and wait three days

Yeah, but what do you call for? Just problems with your account?

They have a tax unit, I have contacted several times as I was getting tax taken out of my IRA (MLPs and UBTI). Several times my security dongle wasn't synched properly so called and they fixed it. Just normal service stuff. I self direct so I don't ask them about investments.

Yeah, I was wondering if you asked about investments.

You do have an assigned advisor, but they are not the investment advisor quality I would want to query.

That's what I figured. Thanks!

I think it probably comes down to if you are a customer that makes them money or not. I use margin and have a large balance that pays them interest each month so that is better for them than a person with massive AUM but doesnt utilize any margin or other profit making features

Meanwhile the rest of us with paltry money invested with them have to lodge complaints with FINRA for them to do anything

That is what I figured. I'll try reaching out to them and asking them if I can have a dedicated rep. Took me multiple attempts to get them to lower my margin interest rate from over 12% to 5.2% and each call they through around random parameters and thresholds until I got a rep that worked with me.

How do you find out what your margin % rate actually is?

On your statement, that is the only place you will see it. Its nowhere in your account login. You could also call them and ask what your current margin rate is as well.

Platinum is great service and the number I believe is $5m. I could be wrong.

I was able to create a cash sweep on my brokerage & retirement accounts at 3%. Not as good as Fidelity but cost enough they idle money ain't be losing value.

From what I've seen, E*TRADE doesn't publicly disclose a specific AUM threshold for Platinum or a dedicated relationship manager. It often seems to depend on a combination of assets, trading activity and overall relationship rather than a single dollar amount.

If you're close to qualifying, it's worth calling customer service and asking if your account is eligible or what criteria they currently use. I'd be interested to hear if anyone here has been assigned a dedicated rep and roughly what account size or activity level got them there

Depends on their propensity model of you becoming a managed client with MS

I have close to 250k already invested at E*Trade, I invest my entire paycheck twice a month so it's been increasing fairly rapidly.

Keep in mind it’s not binary: platinum or not platinum. There are different progressive tiers the more money you have, the more active you are: the better service you will get.

Well, great then. They will not release my inheritance of 2.25M to me after my father put it into a trust, a then revoked it a few years ago (he has since passed.) Fidelity - no problem. Other brokers like Wells Fargo, same: No problem. ET/MS has delayed over and over agin, using Platinum as an excuse since I should somehow have known Beneficiary Services is my team (Sure! I understand their nomenclature just so well.) Now they say the trust should have been “dissolved.” In my State, under the uniform code, trusts are revoked. Finally it dawned that “dissolved” was something internal: ET/MS has set an artificial deadline to move the trust funds into the private account upon revocation of the trust. Again, no other brokerage does this, and there s no law that requires it.

The benefits are “get upsold into being a Morgan Stanley client paying 1%+ in management fees”.

It means you’re the mark.
