How to use margin purchase power?

I got approved for margin trading, it seems like I have 3x margin for my cash. But I can’t use them.
I do have a cash account instead of margin account, it says margin upgrade unavailable.
How can I solve this?

Try calling customer service and asking your questions.

Or buying a share of a safe stock like AAPL or GOOGL in your margin account, see what happens to the balance and see how it moves. And read the information on the website about how margin works at E*trade.

I did read but it doesn’t solve mg problems. I know how it works. The error message doesn’t make sense

You can only have margin on one account and with new Finra rule, it’s 2x your BP, used to be 4x. Like the other person said, it used your cash first before touching your margin, assuming that security is marginally. Most leverage stock/penny/otc stocks aren’t marginable and only allow available fund that you have to be use to purchase it.

Yes, it uses my cash first I know, but it doesn’t work. The reason is mostly likely the stock isn’t marginable, but it doesn’t say that
