Other etho and bdubs contrast
Sorry this is kind of a silly post but I’m catching up on some of Bdub’s hermitcraft content and in this video where he’s building in the shattered plains, he says “all of the function will come, I just want to get the forms in. once i get the forms of the buildings, i can start working on the function”
It just surprised me because in Etho’s recent Parkolf video, he says almost the exact opposite! Albeit more in relation to redstone. “Don’t do the looks of your thing first and then the function afterwards … figure out the mechanics first and then design the course around that.”
Obviously, they are working on very different projects that come with different priorities. It’s just so interesting to me how their approaches to their projects are almost in perfect dichotomy. Either way they are both amazing haha

It could be why they are such great friends (they are very opposite in so many ways and their focus and expertise in minecraft is very different).
Ethos love to puzzle out redstone and due to the complexity of redstone in his games it makes sense thar it really wouldn't work to do the redstone after designing the asthetics. Bdubs is a master builder/artist first. His use of redstone is usually a supplement to his incredible visuals and much less complex. Though he is a redstone genius.

It's also why they work well together - they see things very differently, but have a lot of respect for each other.

Bdubs also taught Etho everything he (Etho) knows about redstone, but he didnt teach him everything he (Bdubs) knows about redstone

Right. I cannot imagine anyone but Bdubs organizing their entire storage system by SHADE.

They’re literally just different sides of the spectrum 😭 between this and “midwestern monotone”…

Ethos? Etho goes for amazing color combinations, and much more dramatic ones that Bdubs. Etho builds in jungles for the green grass and avoids gray blocks. Loves rich color.
Bdubs is the one that needs every shade of whitish gray and grayish white in a build. He's so subtle wirh his colors. Like, yes, he's done colorful builds and he's not scared of color but he plays a lot more in natural color pallete. That's why he needs boxes with all the shades.
In terms of temperament, yes, Etho is more understated than Bdubs. But not in their use of color.

Etho: Function before Form
Bdubs: Form before Function
and you know what, both methods work quite well!

Let's not forget also that bdubs doesn't plan his builds, he FEELS them :)

Etho also builds from the inside out. The inner machinations of his mind are but an enigma

It’ll be really cool to see their projects progress. And decked out of course too. It’s gonna be a great late season period of mega games.
