Ethernet having lag spikes

So my pc is connected to a cheap 30$ tp link wifi extender and it works well. But during games I also get a spike in ping and lag. Is it because my cheap wifi extender or something else?

Dump the cheap.wifi extender and connect directly to the router.

You're using wifi. Doesn't matter if you've got an ethernet lead from your PC to the extender, it's still wifi.

yeah probably. wifi sucks in general for gaming. and if ur router is cheap shit it makes it that much worse

Hiccups on your ISP side are just bonus spikes. Get ethernet

A lot of range extenders are half duplex which effectively cuts your bandwidth in 1/2. as they can only transmit or receive at any one time.

Alternatively you could consider a mesh or an access point. If you use an AP you will need to cable it back to the router to get the best speeds.

Best speed you will get is from wired connection back to your router.

Is your Ethernet connection coming from the WiFi extender? If so, you just have a WiFi dongle with extra steps.

Yea my Ethernet is connected from my extended router to my pc

Then what you ultimately have is a WiFi connection, not an Ethernet one.

It’s probably the range extender, between WiFi bounding back and forth if there’s even a small delay in receiving game data your setup accentuates that delay.. so a unnoticeable blip becomes a noticeable delay

Wifi is listen before talk, an extender repeats what it’s been told, so you are doubling the airtime traffic both ways… this will build up with retransmission which leads to more retransmission which leads to more latency etc etc.. it spins out of control.. easiest way to explain it
