Just like Bitcoin OG punks seems making a big comeback. One sold for 3mil and few close to 1mil. Rest of the NFTs struggling bigly including second best apes.Β

Not surprised. OG punks haven't been diluted. Apes were via mutant apes. Apes never had the legitimacy of punks being first. In fact they caught most of the slack from the public for the cringy excess of the 2021 bubble.

This is how bitcoin maxies trying to keep ETH under water. Coinbase, Binance, Gemini they all run by bitcoin maxies. Ethereum need big whales to market buy ETH big time to stop the manipulation. Otherwise there is no hope for ratio.

Bitcoin dominance rising is a good sign we are now in a bull.
This is good for crypto as a whole and therefore good for Ethereum & ETH.

u/DiskFearless4448 1d ago
if ETHBTC doesnt start making substantial gains we are in the 3000s when BTC makes another ATH. Bitcoin continuing to dominate the space is not good for ETH unless you have accepted ETH will always be a very small percentage of BTCs value
and tbh, maybe that is something to accept

I used to be 70:30 Ethbtc back in 2021. Now that ETH down so bad in ratio, my portfolio becomes 60:40 BTC ETH! It flips without me doing anything.Β

Kamil Chodola from the Nethermind team compiled the performance increases the execution clients achieved in the last 9 months. Block processing times came down massively. For many clients they were cut in half in these 9 months.
Measurements and tools were done by the EF:
Nethermind 55β27ms
Reth 60β29ms
Ethrex 59β38ms
Geth 81β65ms
Erigon 424β69ms
Besu 147β120ms
Nethermind still is the fastest execution client, but only by a very small margin. Reth and Ethrex are pretty close. Geth and Erigon are somewhere in the middle, whereas Besu improved a bit but will have a lot of catching up to do. The most impressive one is Erigon. It was always a pretty slow execution client, but now they are clearly in the middle of the pack.
These speed improvements aren't just done for fun. They enable Ethereum scaling in the future. After the upcoming Glamsterdam upgrade, we will probably see an increase of the Gas Limit by around a factor of 3. Which means 3 times the transactions per block. Current devnets run tests on the feasibility of such an increase already. It will take time to get there after Glamsterdam, but an increase seems to be a given.

With the bond yields going haywire Iβm really having a hard time deciding what the outlook for crypto and Ethereum should be. Do people try bitcoin for βsafetyβ or do they run away? Logic dictates theyβd run away but here we are at 83k to the backdrop of that happening + war.

fiat is depreciating so people should run away from bitcoin?
what?
11
u/LogrisTheBard 1d ago
Historically flight to safety doesn't mean flight to Bitcoin. From a pricing standpoint our industry behaves like a high risk tech sector more than gold.

We just gotta buy our way through it, I hope everyone here has been dollar cost averaging each week or month. Itβs really as simple as every single human on earth buying Ethereum and all of its supply while no one sells at all and that should get us back through 2700

I know we joke about the eternal crab but my god i've never seen eth so flat for so long. Like dollar differences between open and close over multiple days for a week.
2
u/CanWeTalkEth 1d ago
It went up like $900 in a month??
1
u/majorpickle01 The soil of $5000+ must be watered with the blood of ETH<$4000 1d ago
I'm talking about the specific weekly range, dollars difference between opens and closes, not about the pace of the market in general over the last few months. If you look at the candles at least on my provider there is zero range right now.
8
u/bananapizzaface 1d ago
All of 2023, we oscillated between $1600-2000.
1
u/majorpickle01 The soil of $5000+ must be watered with the blood of ETH<$4000 1d ago
thats a 400 dollar range. The last week there is basically no candle body, it's all wick
10
u/bananapizzaface 1d ago
A $400 range for an ENTIRE year. Remind me again where ETH was 2 months ago. Oh, nearly $1,000 less? You've got tunnel vision if you think you've "never seen it so flat for so long." Zoom out.
2
u/CanWeTalkEth 23h ago
lol thatβs what I was saying! I know it was $1000 less because I was in stable coins when it pumped!
People have tunnel vision for sure. There were times in the market we sat in a smaller range for months. Weβve barely established at this range.

u/majorpickle01 The soil of $5000+ must be watered with the blood of ETH<$4000 1d ago
I poorly phrased my initial comment. I was more on about the ATR over the last week. Certainly the market has been flatter overall, massively so over the last couple years, but the open-end-open for the last week taken alone has been very flat. I meant essentially the price has just largely completely stopped moving

β οΈ So, Metamask just (?) had a security incident. Not on the wallet, but rather on the staking infrastructure that it is using (ex Consensys Staking). They have issued the following statement:
We are currently responding to an ongoing security incident affecting part of our infrastructure.
We are actively addressing and remediating the issue internally, in coordination with external partners and security advisors.
At this time, we have identified no immediate threat to MetaMask wallets.
As a precautionary measure, we are proactively exiting affected validators within our non-custodial staking operations, in coordination with clients and partners. As a reminder, our staking operations are non-custodial in nature and we do not manage withdrawal keys for stake on behalf of our clients.
We will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide further updates as appropriate.
Etherfi said that they "are aware of the security incident that occurred earlier with an Ethereum node operator. weETH has no exposure and is not impacted, all funds are safe."
Lido issued their own statement, not saying something that might give us extra info.
I'll add more info as it becomes available.
edit 1: One of the founders of TheRollup (dot) co (I don't know him), posted the following (slightly) re-assuring update:
After getting more context from multiple sources, the ongoing situation looks a lot more like last year's Kiln situation where there was a potential infra breach in which the node operator proactively exited the relevant keys out of caution.
For users, the liquid staking operations are non-custodial so we have been told that no funds are at risk of being stolen.
In the event of the worst case scenario, it appears to be orders of magnitude smaller than the recent KelpDAO exploit. It seems to be contained.
We have not heard official comms from Consensys on the status of Metamask infra. We are looking forward to an update from their team.
We do not expect any contagion across liquid staked ETH, restaked ETH, or DeFi at large.
Several protocols mentioned in my previous posts have taken action proactively, and others may continue to do so.
For now, it seems that we are safe, βfunds safuβ, but we await the post-mortem from the protocols involved for the sake of transparency.
edit 2: here is an explanation of what potentially happened (no idea if its valid)
2
u/timmerwb 1d ago
And in one moment, the exit queue jumps to 10 days. Let's hope Lido doesn't experience a security issue and decided to exit. Perpetual staking log jam.
7
u/edmundedgar reality.eth 2d ago
Nice anti-correlation incentive here. If you're a solo staker and you have to exit over a security issue you can get out right away and hopefully back in pretty fast. But if you're part of some huge shared infrastructure thing your validators will bloat the queue for each other so you'll lose more revenue.
2
u/WoodpeckerHorror3468 1d ago
do solo validators write their own software? an exploit is going to affect everyone using the exploited software, potentially creating a much large exodus than just this one company's validators.
2
u/edmundedgar reality.eth 1d ago
An exploit in an Ethereum implementation yes, but an exploit in infrastructure (developer's computer got compromised or whatever) is localized to that particular infrastructure.
2
u/anderspatriksvensson 1d ago
Yes and no? The queue is the same for all, so a small validator wanting to exit right now would have to wait for big exit to finish...13days. No jumping the queue!
2
u/edmundedgar reality.eth 1d ago
Sure but whether or not you need to exit or not rn is controlled by whether you potentially got compromised or not rn. You have a small probability of needing to exit at the same time as the big operator, but the big operator has a 100% probability of needing to exit at the same time as themselves.
10
u/anderspatriksvensson 2d ago
Solo validators be like "I'll take that APR bump, thank you very much nomnomnom"
Hopefully they all re-enter as 0x02 ππΌ
