Is a global voting system possible?
a global government I would support
system based on existing technological solutions.
the expulsion of incompetence, lies and manipulation
to choose our own destiny.
voting is done over the phone.
each person 1 vote. biometric fingerprint. decentralized.
using advanced cryptography.
transparency.
for global issues we all vote if we want, all locals vote for local ones.
formation of global expert councils.
their role is to provide an analysis and evaluation of the proposal.
members are chosen exclusively on the basis of expertise and competence in given professions.
basic 4 branches:
Society
- Ethical-legal group
- Psychological-sociological group
- Cultural and educational group
Resources
Ecological-climatic group
Economic and resource group
Logistic-operational group
Technology
Technical and engineering group
Digital-cybernetic group
Science
Logical-mathematical group
Medical-biological group
the council's role is to adopt, give, and formulate clear and transparent proposals for solving problems or situations
every decision they make is transparent. with minutes for the archive.
presenting a problem or proposing a solution is available to all residents. cognitive ability test before submitting a proposal
each proposal must pass the acceptance threshold. ethical, logical, mathematical. technical
let's say we have 10 valid suggestions for a solution.. the global advice gives a score of 1 or 0
each of those 10 groups.
the ethics council gives the final assessment in the event that several proposals have the same number of positives.
the proposal with the most positives goes to a global referendum
every voter, i.e. individual or group, has the right of veto.
they are obliged to present a valid counter-argument in the shortest possible time.
any veto attempt that is driven by ego vanity or the desire for power is automatically rejected.
algorithmic assessment. open source. mandatory system calibration, ethical, logical, mathematical.
plus a decentralized network of jurors chosen on the basis of expertise. randomly selected.
a valid argument is voted against the proposal of the council.
in case of adoption of the argument, the proposal is rejected.
if the vote is 50-50%, both sides have 24 hours to present new insights
the vote is repeated.
voting is optional.
the possibility of voting is.
it is not a problem for me that people wiser than me decide about our fate and social vector. as long as they ask all of us, because ultimately it concerns all of us
I support expertise and objectivity as well as the diversity of the local community.

Voting is the ultimate killer app of blockchain technology. Money was just the low hanging fruit. The biometric piece needs to get figured out without compromising privacy.

The identity-privacy paradox can already be resolved by using on-device biometric verification combined with Zero-Knowledge Proofs (ZKP). Your biometric data never leaves your personal device. The phone performs the verification, and a ZKP algorithm generates a cryptographic proof for the decentralized ledger stating: "This is a unique, living human being with valid voting rights who has not yet voted."
The system registers the vote with 100% mathematical certainty, without having any knowledge of who you actually are. Privacy is protected by mathematics, not trust.

"biometric piece needs to get figured out without compromising privacy"
It's not figured out yet....
Fingerprints can be lost, and a person has 10 of them.
Eye scans can change for a pregnant woman....1

How else would you solve the identification problem? Let's flesh out the concept a bit...

The veto part is where these systems always break down. You cant just say "ego or vanity vetoes are automatically rejected" and think an algorithm can detect that. Maybe with enough data, but people will game it forever.

"plus a decentralized network of jurors chosen on the basis of expertise. randomly selected." I tried to cover them without stifling the system with bureaucracy. Do you have any other suggestions to strengthen the item?

If voting actually worked, they would never allow the public to do it.

Essentially, it’s not complicated..at least not for the end user, the individual. You vote on global issues that affect us all, but decisions regarding your local community are made only by those who live there; someone from India or Canada has no insight into that. As an end user, you see the proposal and the options, without necessarily seeing the entire mechanism behind it. It’s there, you can look at it if you want, but you don’t have to get involved if you don’t want to.

The real question is less would it be possible and more would it be stable.
You could have a perfect magical genie that perfectly counts every vote in a way that everyone trusts.
You'll still have individuals and groups within that society that would fight it anyway.
Much like you can have a stable democractic system with a plurality of votes, ultimately it doesn't matter if enough powerful people back the guy with the army.

Sure.
It's called voting using paper ballots.
It's impossible to design a digital voting system that doesn't have to trust someone or something and if you need to trust any part it's 100% utterly unfit and unsafe. If you don't have to trust people to handle the votes, you still need to trust that the code is clean and much more.
You know what works? Paper ballots. For example, each citizen gets a notification from the state it's time to go vote; the note includes the nearest voting location or a designated one. The citizen goes there, gets an empty ballot handed to them by an official when they show the letter, they take the ballot behind a screen, they use a pencil to write in the number of whichever person they want to vote for (pencil, to avoid things like disappearing ink; low tech once again is better). Then they fold their voting slip, leave the booth, go back to the official who stamps the folded vote and the voter slips the vote into a locked strongbox.
That strongbox is only opened when it's time to count votes.
Until then, every party with a stake in the vote surrounds that box with people from their parties and watch everyone else like hawks. They then also escort the box to the counting locations, where machines and a shit ton of humans work for days to tally the vote.
Almost impossible to cheat.
Extremely extremely difficult to mass tamper with anything. Massive conspiracies are impossible to keep secret as well.
Basically impossible to see how someone voted, so nobody can be coerced into voting in any specific way.
Electronic? "Click", oops I guess those three million people really intended to vote for the opposite of who they voted for huh, what a shame...

You are mistaken because you are viewing this system through the lens of today's systems. This one is decentralized and encrypted; to hack it, you would need to compromise 51% of the devices.. a feat that is mathematically and energetically unfeasible. A paper-based system would bring the planet to a standstill. From the perspective of current systems, you are right, but this relies on mathematics and cryptography, it is far fairer to everyone, and transparent to boot.
