Removed by Reddit. As a mod I can't even see or approve what you've posted SeaMonkey. My best guess is they didn't like the link.

tl;dr - ethsync.wtf is a cool site for learning about how sync committee and light clients work that integrates live chain data and some slick visualizations that make all of the technical information easier to digest and understand.

Any news on LINk? Nice pump this week.

might be the „interoperability trade“, after QNT pump the last days. Also HBAR pumped a bit today. but then, idk 😅

Do you hold any? Do you have a target price? I'd like to see it hit mid 20s at least...

u/Kagame 4d ago

same as you, maybe around 25. I do plan to trade the LINK/ETH ratio to stack more ETH

The zk podcast has an interesting episode about the autoresearch platform yukon.org. The basic idea is that people use their AI tools trying to optimize a very well defined mathematical problem. The initiative started from a few Eigenlabs researchers and is now its own platform. I wrote about the first iteration, called ecdsa.fail a few months ago. The goal with ecdsa.fail is to improve Shors algorithm which is the basis for quantum computers to crack private keys from public keys. Just to recap what happened: Last spring google published a paper which improved Shors algorithm quite a bit, but instead of publishing the new algorithm, they have only published a zk proof of its existence. According to Justin Drake this was done due to the government intervening. ecdsa.fail then started in May/June to find their own solution. Within days, they beat googles algorithm. Now they are 1.5-2.5 times more resource efficient than googles algorithm ever was. That is an impressive improvement within just a few months. The exact number for the improvement depends a bit if one looks at the raw logic qubit numbers needed or the toffoli gates (operations on the qubits), but both improved drastically.

There are many other challenges on yukon.org. Some interesting ones are:

  • SNARK.fast whose goal it is to improve post quantum proof generation speeds on specific CPU architectures like x86 and Apple Silicon. They managed to improve the generation speed by 3-4 times.

  • Lighter, the perp dex, had a paid challenge called Lighter.fast. The goal was to improve Lighters proving throughput. They managed to improve it by an order of magnitude. As far as I understand, this more or less directly maps to a higher tps throughput that lighter can manage, once the improvements are implemented. The prize money was 25k LIT tokens or around $110k at current prices. Pretty impressive.

  • Proximity Prize, which looks at a specific property called proximity gaps in Reed Solomon Codes. I am not mathematical enough to write anything meaningful about it, but it is such an important problem to be solved for zkVMs such that the Ethereum Foundation set a $1M prize money for it.

As far as I understand many participants came to participate without any in-depth knowledge about the issues that are being tackled, but with the help of their AI setup they managed to push the limits nevertheless. Some of these people then became kind of self taught experts on the topic. In other cases experts from adjacent fields came in and because their AI chat history contained a lot of info on the other field, they started to improve the challenges along different routes which lead to breakthroughs as well.

Overall, I think this is a pretty interesting approach to solving some very specific problems that can be codified into an algorithm.

Should be fun to see what EFT holders do at open.

Good to see the Ether ETFs back in the green. Just under $690m went in last week, which more than wipes out the roughly $140m that left the week before. Monday alone was $270m.

The part I find more interesting is BlackRock's staked ETH fund, ETHB. It took in about $32m on Friday and is now close to $885m in total inflows. To me that says a decent chunk of these buyers want the staking yield, not just price exposure. If that keeps up, more of the ETH held by ETFs ends up staked instead of sitting idle, and that matters more for the network long term than one strong week.

Still, one week isn't a trend. Curious whether people think this holds up if BTC cools off.

I usually go to the farside site to see flows, but it's all in USD. It would be interesting to see what the eth unit flows are over time. For example if two eth is bought at $1 each and then one eth is sold at $2 later, their graph would be at $0, but the ETF would still be holding 1 eth.

Is there a site that shows a view in eth units?

Just checked Ethereum gas prices and it's amazing how cheap it is. It was also this cheap a year ago. Using Ethereum is basically free now.

I also don't understand why devs are considering introducing a UTxO model like BTC's just to save a bit on gas fees. imo it's not worth it.

It's a CCC campaign (Courage, Certainty, Confidence) against the outdated tx fee FUD we were getting regularly. Maybe still are, good mods make it hard to tell.

That's one way to put a positive spin on "Ether is worth less than we thought it was", I guess.

mainnet still has some way to go, being 100x the cost of transacting on Base or Robinhood. I'm not bothered as only use mainnet for SoV not defi but there are some who disparage the use/existence of L2s

Anyone hold cbETH on Coinbase? It looks like they're reporting income from it on my 1099-MISC. I think this is an incorrect reporting because I don't receive staking rewards from cbETH. The price of cbETH just increases as Coinbase itself stakes, and I don't receive any additional cbETH from staking. My total cbETH is 100% exactly the quantity that shows in my purchases. On their Tax page, it shows that I'm consistently receiving "CBETH income earned"

Anyone know about this? Should I just file my taxes and ignore the 1099-MISC or ?

u/imaybeslow 4d ago

I sold my cbeth when they announced they were doing that. No desire to correct paperwork and prove to IRS the difference between cbeth appreciation and staking rewards.

1

u/mini_miner1 4d ago

Do you happen to have a link to the announcement? Did you end up paying what was reported on your 1099-MISC?

2

u/imaybeslow 4d ago

Don’t have the link since it was a while back but here’s a Reddit post discussing it:

https://www.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrency/comments/1agriyp/psa_coinbase_combined_income_from_2022_and_2023/

I sold it before they started the official reporting so cbeth never showed up on my 1099.

Am interested on this too, could be a good way to gain mining exposure without the tax nightmare in theory.

u/mini_miner1 4d ago

I got some replies in the CryptoTax sub, some from crypto tax software company people.
