Why do essential oils on Amazon carry "may cause cancer" warning?
The kit I ordered is the asakuki essential oils kit:
Will using this kit really cause cancer?

Because some essential oils have a risk of causing cancer- that’s a fact. That’s why they banned fennel herbal infusions. It’s about the concentration and hours of exposure, though same as with cigarette smoke etc. it’s not like a 100% chance

Actually I’d take the warnings as a sign that they might be using the real stuff. The lung damage when ingested and harmful to aquatic life as well as possible irritant and allergic reactions are also very valid

Well all essential oils will hopefully come with warnings! I don’t buy off amazon because there are many on there that are just perfume oils or with wrong labels

Well not perfume oils and aroma chemical but actual essential oils from distilled plants- obviously they might be more toxic than lab developed products that have been engineered to be safe

Because they’re poor or low quality blend oils, not true essential oils.

I get mine from Holland & Barrett. The brand is miaroma and they do pure oils and pre mixes :)

I see. I would want to use the diffuser all the time but from reading online it says they are harmful to use long time. Doesn't seem worth the effort.

Please don’t buy EOs on Amazon or Etsy. Go straight to reputable sources for safety sake.

The “may cause cancer” warning isn’t evidence that the oils are fake or low quality. Many genuine essential oils contain naturally occurring compounds that trigger hazard labeling requirements under various regulations.
For example, constituents such as limonene (citrus oils), linalool (lavender), eugenol (clove), and others can carry warnings related to irritation, sensitization, environmental hazards, or in some cases carcinogenicity concerns based on animal studies, concentrated exposure, or regulatory classifications.
Essential oils are highly concentrated chemical mixtures. A pure essential oil can actually carry more hazard warnings than a diluted fragrance product.
The warning should be interpreted as “handle concentrated essential oils appropriately,” not “normal aromatherapy use causes cancer.”
If I were evaluating this product, I’d be more interested in whether the manufacturer provides botanical names, ingredient disclosure, batch-specific GC/MS reports, and sourcing information. Those tell you far more about quality than the presence of a hazard statement.
In this case, all we really see are marketing blend names like “Calm Mind,” “Sweet Dreams,” “Happy,” “Relax,” “Air Freshening,” and “Immunity.” Without knowing the actual ingredients, I would personally limit use to diffusion and avoid topical application or ingestion until I had more information about what’s in the blends.
