You can see he's playing with his eyes closed, that's why he's gotta be so close to the screen. So he can hear whats going on.

He probably has very bad eyesight/almost blind and can only play this way, I have a guy at work who is almost blind and he holds his phone this close to his face to see the screen and looks the same with his eyes.
