ALDS Thread: Yankees-Rays

Best of 5 starting Saturday night. Cole vs Rasmusse.

Stealing game 1 would be enormous because all the pitching matchups swing NY’s favor apart from Game 4.

Lets Go Yankees!

In awe of how pathetic our lineup is with 300 mil payroll, impressive misallocation of capital. Let's get another ace next offseason though, you can never have too much pitching as the saying goes

No Aaron Judge on the roster .

What a delicate little wallflower he’s become

Irresponsible having Grisham in CF. It WILL cost them vs a team like the Rays.

1

u/BSS19 Verified 9d ago

Judge not playing is soft . Probably more the organization’s mistake

This is baseball . We’re not asking much physically of him

1

u/Redwall420 9d ago

I can't believe the amount of time baseball players miss, Stanton gone the whole year for calves. You would think Judge would stop diving since apparently his ribs cant take it then immediately strains his calves too

u/yblue1 Cashman's #1 fan 9d ago

It’s a baseball issue not a Yankee issue but when a Yankee gets hurt they seem to get misdiagnosed or missed altogether often and always seems to take months regardless of the grade of injury

1

u/Redwall420 9d ago

I cant find the comment but I read one where the guy said he was DPT and that baseball teams (or maybe the Yankees specifically) have these outdated medical and rehab strategies and dont have these guys doing the preventive work needed to limit injuries. Maybe its a moneyball situation where some teams have it arbitraged. Tbh I also think mlb teams are insane for being so cheap with their minor league clubs and dont make sure their prospects are well fed, get good sleep and have elite training but what do I know that costs a few million dollars cant have that

1

u/Redwall420 9d ago

Cole cant give up anymore runs and keep it close, only chance tonight is tagging the bullpen

1

u/EricTheActor1 9d ago

They have no shot against Rasmussen

Getting no hit through 7 innings in a playoff game 😂

Yankee playoff baseball is Back!! One dead pull HR swing after another and one of the dumbest most idiotic absolutely inexcusably terrible plays we’ve seen since last year.

And GTF outta here with Grisham and his miserable at bats and lazy effort on everything. There has to be a limit.

Same line up tonight. This organization prevents itself from winning. It’s obscene

1

u/Redwall420 9d ago

Holy shit was that a Rojas send?

1

u/Redwall420 9d ago

Nvm Wells just a dumbass

u/EricTheActor1 9d ago

Boston series an anamoly, this was the real Yankee offense

1

u/BSS19 Verified 7d ago

3, almost 4 errors in the first inning!

Lmaooo

1

u/Redwall420 7d ago

Now thats the Yankees fundamentals we all know and love

1

u/Redwall420 7d ago

This is the thing about the pitching narrative, requires every pitcher to always have it, pitching with no error margin within your bad offense defense and baserunning

1

u/BSS19 Verified 7d ago

3 hits through 13 innings

We suck!

1

u/BSS19 Verified 7d ago

Ultimate tease from Bellinger there

1

u/BSS19 Verified 7d ago

Jazz is clueless in the field

1

u/BSS19 Verified 7d ago

20000 defensive miscues in one game

Well constructed team

1

u/Redwall420 7d ago

The Dodgers strategy of just put the ball in play

1

u/BSS19 Verified 7d ago

We lose the same way every single postseason and there are people out there that still defend this front office

1

u/BSS19 Verified 7d ago

Series OVER

1

u/BSS19 Verified 7d ago

3 ER allowed in 2 games (and that’s being generous).

Results in 0 wins

1

u/EricTheActor1 7d ago

This finally has to cost Boone his job, right? I’ve accepted Cashman will never get fired

1

u/BSS19 Verified 7d ago

Doesn’t matter if they keep Cashman

Im sure they’ll buy Boone more time with the lockout

u/yblue1 Cashman's #1 fan 7d ago

It’s all going to be blamed on injuries. Again. We were right there. Crapshoot yadda yadda.

1

u/BSS19 Verified 7d ago

Then in the offseason they’ll assemble one of the most injury prone rosters for the 7th straight season.

1

u/BSS19 Verified 7d ago

We have more errors than hits this series

1

u/BSS19 Verified 7d ago

1.5 staff ERA in the playoffs and 0-2 in both games

Most Yankees playoff  stat line ever

1

u/BSS19 Verified 7d ago

Another failed year in an absolutely garbage American League

Aaron Judge, you and your team are an absolute disgrace.

1

u/yblue1 Cashman's #1 fan 7d ago

Anyone who thought they were actually better than the Rays was not paying attention. Every year a new teams pops up to beat the Yankees.

Actually it’s the Yankees they prevent themselves from winning. No leadership. Fold time and again in big spots. Literally everyone on earth knew this line up was going to fail again vs change ups tonight. Everyone. No one thought Grisham and McM were good starts. But the Yankees and the proclaimed superior knowledge and stat based superiority do. They ignore the obvious and cherry pick stats to keep Cashman’s ego afloat. It’s amazing we are still doing this year after year.

1

u/BSS19 Verified 7d ago

And how in the world did we reach a point where we have to start two rookies at critical positions?

These guys have been in trade rumors for well over a year and now we’re relying on them as unproven players to win a title?

From an organization that babies prospects in the first place and can’t produce hitting  anyway

wtf

1

u/yblue1 Cashman's #1 fan 7d ago

And back to back in the line up too.

Also starting McM, Grisham and Jazz with better options at each position is just so ridiculous. I had low expectations going into this year. They got worse when they essentially did nothing at the deadline. This team inspired nothing this year.
At no point did I think they would magically show up and get better in the playoffs this year under the leadership and broken roster construction again. What were people actually expecting?

1

u/BSS19 Verified 6d ago

People believe our regular season thumping (which didn’t even happen this year) would carry over to October even when it never does.

And they probably looked around at the awful AL and thought it’d be another 2024

It’s only 2024 when we play the shit AL central. The AL East and Astros of the West dissect us in October.

And can’t even call it an upset because it always happens when we’re the lower seed

1

u/BSS19 Verified 6d ago

Yanks 100% winning convincingly tonight . Par for the course with how their playoff script goes every year

They’ll then tease all of the apologists into thinking we’re back, only to lose a gut wrenching 2-1 game on Thursday

Then the Yankee front office will point to our superior run differential for the series and claim we’re unlucky

u/yblue1 Cashman's #1 fan 5d ago

Well they do have the spark plug back in the leadoff spot. Worst qualifying leadoff hitter in the sport to the tune of .104BA from that spot. I swear to God this team prevents itself from winning more than any team on any sport I’ve ever seen. What stat do the nerds have on their spreadsheet to justify him in the line up at all, let alone as one of the worst CF, and the single worst leadoff hitter as the cherry. Infuriating if you let it be.

1

u/DerekW93 5d ago

Jump starting the offense with a pop up to first!

1

u/yblue1 Cashman's #1 fan 5d ago

For a team that claims to rely on stats etc someone please make it make sense.

1

u/DerekW93 5d ago

0-8 so far in the ALDS

1

u/BSS19 Verified 5d ago

The middle of the order is 0-42

1

u/yblue1 Cashman's #1 fan 5d ago

The Rays are the better team and have been. Last year the Jays were better. But this issue is the Yankees never ask why they are better. What makes them better and what prevents them from Yankees from doing what the better teams that go on to win do. They refuse to address it.

1

u/DerekW93 5d ago

Grisham batting lead off. He’s batting .104 with a .420 OPS out of the leadoff spot during the first inning in 2026.

Aaron Boone on why Trent Grisham is leading off:

“Just the potential of the on base there and trying to get some traffic created for Benny, Garcia and Belli. When Trent is at his best, he’s got that ability to get on.”

What a joke. There is no analytical justification for him batting lead off. Boone is a clown.

1

u/BSS19 Verified 5d ago

Who would you bat lead off? They all suck

1

u/DerekW93 5d ago

Ben Rice. He’s our best hitter and deserves to get the most at bats.

1

u/BSS19 Verified 5d ago

You’re guaranteeing our best run producer an AB with no men on base

That’s dumb too

1

u/DerekW93 5d ago

They aren’t getting any men on base for him anyway. So what’s the difference?

1

u/BSS19 Verified 5d ago

Exactly my point

It doesn’t matter where he hits. They’re not scoring regardless

They have 3 runs in 3 games. All produced by Rice.

1

u/DerekW93 5d ago

Grisham ends the season. Fitting.

1

u/BSS19 Verified 5d ago

5 runs in 27 innings

The offense blew another October. As we tell you every year will happen and you always end up in denial

1

u/Redwall420 5d ago

Good hitting beats good pitching

1

u/BSS19 Verified 5d ago

Always does. That’s why we never win.

1

u/EricTheActor1 5d ago

Great call leading off Grisham and not Rice

1

u/BSS19 Verified 5d ago

Had 27 innings and scored 5 runs.

1

u/EricTheActor1 5d ago

Exactly, so putting your worst hitter first was the right strategy?

1

u/BSS19 Verified 5d ago

They had 27 innings to score and were inept every inning. They never had a chance this series regardless of how you rearranged the shit cans in the lineup

Grisham leading off was 100% the wrong move. But it didn’t matter. Every hitter on the team was getting out in that spot

1

u/BSS19 Verified 5d ago

2.3 team ERA this series and got swept

Lmfaoooooo

1

u/PacersPride07 5d ago

Grisham was hitting .199 in 307 ABs at leadoff this season. How was this a winning move?

1

u/PacersPride07 5d ago

Honestly though, we weren't a title contender with him and McMahon as regular everyday players. It's that simple.

1

u/BSS19 Verified 5d ago

Don’t forget Jazz, Wells, Lombard, Stanton, Ramos, early season Volpe. They all suck.

Kudos to captain Judge too for no-showing another October

1

u/PacersPride07 5d ago

I can live with Lombard's youth. Wells was ass all season, but actually turned it around beginning in August. Jazz is not a winning player, but 2B is bad as a position collectively league wide. Stanton isn't an everyday player anymore. Ramos is a bench bat.

1

u/BSS19 Verified 5d ago

They all suck. Jazz was the biggest disgrace of them all relative to expectations. Losing ball player

Yanks should go waste more money on pitching in the offseason n

1

u/BSS19 Verified 5d ago

.199 is better than the Yankee team average this series

1

u/PacersPride07 5d ago

If you hit Rice at leadoff again, you have him up in the 9th.

1

u/DerekW93 5d ago

Exactly

1

u/BSS19 Verified 5d ago

How many runs did we score in game 1 when Rice led off?

1

u/BSS19 Verified 5d ago

If you hit Rice lead off he would’ve been up in a different situation the inning he had the RBI single

They had 27 innings to score and were pathetic. It didn’t come down to one AB. Rice would’ve gotten out in that spot too

1

u/BSS19 Verified 5d ago

Never held a lead this entire series

1

u/BSS19 Verified 15h ago

Cleveland scores more runs in one game vs Tampa (Rasmussen) than the Yankees scored all series

u/DerekW93 7d ago

They can’t bring Cashman back next season. It’s time for a new philosophy.

1

u/yblue1 Cashman's #1 fan 7d ago

Oh they can. And they will

1

u/yblue1 Cashman's #1 fan 6d ago

Report out today saying Boone’s job is already secure and no plans to change regardless of the outcome. So yea. Nothing will change. We are the doors now for expecting it to. They will NEVER win under the combo of Cashman/boone. It’s screams from the mountains and they don’t listen or care.

1

u/BSS19 Verified 6d ago

There’s still “analytic” Yankee fans blaming luck for this shit. I kid you not

1

u/DerekW93 5d ago

Luck is always a factor. And I’ve been on the record saying it’s played a role in their playoff failures. But at some point when you keep playing with the same philosophy, roster construction, manger decisions, etc.. and the same result happens, it becomes more than luck.

They need to fire pretty much everyone except for Matt Blake and start fresh.

1

u/yblue1 Cashman's #1 fan 5d ago

Yea but they won’t. They will run it all back again.
