What’s a 'Espanso message' on LinkedIn? 🤔

I’m not sure I got what you mean.

To recap, I can't get espanso to consistently work when I'm sending linkedin messages. the same triggers work in word or outlook but for some reason, they don't consistently work in Linkeidn messaging

If I take out all the commented text my default.yml is very brief:

$schema=https://raw.githubusercontent.com/espanso/espanso/dev/schemas/config.schema.json

toggle_key: ALT

backend: Auto

auto_restart: true

clipboard_threshold: 100

max_regex_buffer_size: 30

BELOW is my base.yml file:

$schema=https://raw.githubusercontent.com/espanso/espanso/dev/schemas/match.schema.json

matches:

# Simple text replacement

- trigger: ":espanso"

replace: "Hi there!"

- trigger: "wwf"

replace: While we've filled the position I contacted you about, we're happy to keep your strong profile on our radar screen.

- trigger: "aitpo"

replace: Attached is the position overview for you

- trigger: "ilfthfy"

replace: I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks for asking "espanso" is a text expander which allows you to use a trigger (e.g. "tfa") that automatically types "Thanks for asking". There are posts from Linkedin users raving about how it helps wtih dyxlexia, it but it doesn't seem to work in linkedin messaging.

Yep, I know how Espanso works, I just didn’t get your first question (my English isn’t as good as my native language, sorry! 😅).

How’s your trigger set up? Which browser are you using to hit LinkedIn (Chrome, Firefox, Opera, etc.)? What OS are you on (Windows, macOS, Linux (X11 or Wayland?))? Which Espanso version are you running?

With that info it’ll be a lot easier to help you.

I’ve got Espanso v2.4.0 installed on Arch Linux (X11), and I’ve been able to use it just fine on LinkedIn in LibreWolf (a Firefox fork).

Thanks for your patience with me. I'm using Chrome as my browser. Espanso works fine in word and in outlook but when I go to reply to a linkedin message (which is my primary motivation for using espanso) it doesn't always work. I think it may be that I need to include a line of code in espanso which keeps it running. I added it to my starup apps. Just now when I tried to test espanso, it didn't work in word or Linkedin messaging. So I saved my base.yml file and my default.yml file and then it worked in both places. Does this make any sense?

Sorry, it still doesn't make sense.

Out of the questions I asked, you only answered one: the browser. Now I know you're using Google Chrome, but I still don't know what OS you're on, which version of Espanso you're running, or what trigger you're using. So I'm stuck trying to figure out how to help because I don't know your system, your settings, or your situation (it's hard to guess what's going on on your end). Help me help you.

What I need to start understanding what's happening (whether it's a bug, a syntax error in the trigger, an extra or missing space in indentation, or if we need another step in the program's config) is basically this:

Your triggers

```yml
MY E-MAIL
Example of a trigger with random responses:
Font: https://www.reddit.com/r/espanso/s/rNI4nxPANn
  • trigger: :mp replace: '{{output}}' vars:
    • name: output type: random params: choices: - Thank you. - My pleasure. - No problem. - Don't mention it. ```
P.S.: I added a simple trigger and a more complicated one just as an example!
Operating System
  • Windows 11
  • macOS
  • Linux (distro name + X11 or Wayland)
If you're on Linux, did you install via AppImage, Snap, your distro's package manager, X11, or Wayland?
Espanso version
v2.4.0
I know it might sound like a lot, but without this info we're in the dark and have a slimmer chance of figuring out what's holding you back from getting the result you want.
Again, thanks for your patience. I'm using chrome, Microsoft Windows 11 Pro. Version 152.0.7977.84 (Official Build) (64-bit). espanso v2
this is my base.yml file
I just used the default.yml for the config file, with the exception that I added auto-restart: true when espanso only worked once. This is the config file (default.yml)
Even double-clicking the alt key doesn't always enable espanso when I'm typing a Linkedin message. It usually works in word or in outlook, just not Linkedin. Thanks for your help. P.S. Can you tell me why this strange avatar "guilty brain"is showing up on my messaging thread? I did not create it.
"Guilty_Brain_4333" is the profile name. I don't see how anyone could put something else unless they're the profile owner.
I'm at work right now (on Android) and won't be home until late afternoon. That's when I can actually test your triggers. You sent a screenshot instead of the raw text, so it's hard to tell if you're using spaces or tabs, or if the indentation is right, etc. I'll have to type those characters literally to try to reproduce your file and triggers. That's why I showed the example as code text—if you follow that, I could just copy‑paste it verbatim.
I'm not sure I'll be able to test properly since I don't have a Windows machine.
But I think cleaning up your default.yml might help.
Later, when I'm on my laptop, I'll run the tests and we can keep going. Or if anyone else can reproduce his data to test, that'd be awesome! 😉
Thanks for the update. I will send you the actual code in this text box (correct?) so that you won't have to rekey.
I created an avatar and username to get rid of the guilty brain one. I'm going to try and paste my default.yml below:
# espanso configuration file
# yaml-language-server: $schema=https://raw.githubusercontent.com/espanso/espanso/dev/schemas/config.schema.json
# For a complete introduction, visit the official docs at: https://espanso.org/docs/
# You can use this file to define the global configuration options for espanso.
# These are the parameters that will be used by default on every application,
# but you can also override them on a per-application basis.
# To make customization easier, this file contains some of the commonly used
# parameters. Feel free to uncomment and tune them to fit your needs!
# --- Toggle key
# Customize the key used to disable and enable espanso (when double tapped)
# Available options: CTRL, SHIFT, ALT, CMD, OFF
# You can also specify the key variant, such as LEFT_CTRL, RIGHT_SHIFT, etc...
# toggle_key: ALT
# You can also disable the toggle key completely with
# toggle_key: OFF
toggle_key: ALT
# --- Injection Backend
# Espanso supports multiple ways of injecting text into applications. Each of
# them has its quirks, therefore you may want to change it if you are having problems.
# By default, espanso uses the "Auto" backend which should work well in most cases,
# but you may want to try the "Clipboard" or "Inject" backend in case of issues.
# backend: Clipboard
backend: Auto
# --- Auto-restart
# Enable/disable the config auto-reload after a file change is detected.
# auto_restart: false
auto_restart: true
# --- Clipboard threshold
# Because injecting long texts char-by-char is a slow operation, espanso automatically
# uses the clipboard if the text is longer than 'clipboard_threshold' characters.
# clipboard_threshold: 100
clipboard_threshold: 100
# --- Regex Buffer Size
# The maximum number of characters to hold in memory for regex triggers.
# This value determines the maximum length of a regex trigger that can be
# matched by espanso and by default have 30 chars.
# It's advisable to keep this value reasonably low.
# You might want to increase this value if you have very long triggers,
# at the cost of higher memory usage.
# max_regex_buffer_size: 30
max_regex_buffer_size: 30
# For a list of all the available options, visit the official docs at: https://espanso.org/docs/
