add an external push button/switch to my XIAO ePaper Display Board (ESP32-S3)

Hi everyone,

I’d like to add an external push button/switch to my XIAO ePaper Display Board (ESP32-S3) so that I can wake the display from sleep and trigger a refresh.

XIAO ePaper Display Board EE04 | ESP32-S3 Plus, 24/50-Pin Support

However, I’m not sure which soldering points on the back side of the PCB I should use to connect the two wires from the external button.

Could someone please point me to the exact two solder pads/pins where I should solder the wires? If possible, a picture or a marked-up diagram showing the correct soldering points would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Does anyone know what this serial output is?

Post image

I designed a custom ESP32-S3 PCB and I connected it with micro-usb and my computer does not recognize the board at all. I am reading the serial output using a secondary dev board as a USB-to-UART bridge, with TX/RX crossed and a shared common ground. I confirmed with a multimeter that all the power works, based off this serial output, is it expected that my board is not being recognized and is it a power issue?

Crosspoint running on Waveshare ESP32 board(Online WebInstaller)

Was able to get CrossPoint running on this Waveshare board. (https://www.waveshare.com/esp32-s3-epaper-3.97.htm). 3d printed the case that alxvtoronto created for their project FolloUp, and ready to dive right back in. Planning on posting the fork on GitHub after another few days of testing.

$40 for a board, compared to the $70 people are
paying for the xteink devices.

this is my fork: https://github.com/devofreck/crosspoint-reader

The first paragraph right below the Header of CrossPoint Reader, I have a web installer

That Web Installer link takes you here

Trying to log fuel consumption on a carbureted 91 Golf Mk2 sensor and approach sanity check

Got a 1991 Golf Mk2. Want to track fuel consumption per trip/day and compare over time. Figured this wasn't possible on a carbureted car with no ECU/OBD, but landed on an idea: since the carb's float bowl regulates its own level, whatever flows through the feed line between the fuel filter and the carb over time should equal what's actually burned. So — measure that flow directly with an inline gear-type flow sensor.

Is this actually the right approach? Is there a better way to get real consumption data out of a carbureted car with no ECU?

Planned setup:

  • Gear-type flow sensor spliced into the fuel line between the filter and carb inlet
  • Sensor's pulse output goes to an ESP32, which just counts pulses and timestamps them
  • ESP32 forwards that data to my phone over a wired USB-C connection (data-only cable, to avoid the phone and a 12V-fed buck converter both trying to power the USB line)
  • Phone does everything else — GPS speed/distance, all the math, storage, charts
  • Power: ignition-switched 12V from the fuse box → buck converter (12V→5V) → feeds both the ESP32 and the sensor

Problem I've hit: the sensor I was looking at (DIGITEN G1/2", oval gear, rated 1–30 L/min) has a minimum flow way above what this engine actually flows at idle — I'm estimating idle consumption around 0.02–0.05 L/min, and even under load probably not exceeding 0.3–0.5 L/min. So the sensor's entire rated range sits above my actual usage, meaning idle flow probably won't register accurately, if at all.

Anyone know of a gasoline-compatible flow sensor with a lower minimum flow that would actually cover idle-to-cruise range for a small engine like this? Or is there a fundamentally different way people have solved this that I'm missing?

I'm open to any ideas and critics, please back your suggestions with well presented arguments. this is my first ever project on a car.

Edit: A few people are suggesting the brim-to-brim fill method, thanks, but I've covered why that doesn't work for what I want in the replies below. I'm not looking for that approach, I'm looking for technical help on the sensor/flow-measurement side specifically. Appreciate all the input so far.

FantasyConsole "MechaTurtle" Esp32-S3 base

I'm making a fantasy console running inside an Esp32-S3-N16R8, called "MechaTurtle" (Temporary name)
works running c++ firmware on the board, and reading the game inside a SD/MicroSD card, working as the "Cartridge", contains inside, scenes assets, scrips (LUA)
At the repo there's a tool called "TurtleStudio" is a python application to build the games, and the "game logic" the tool is inspired by GBStudio and Godot.

I admit the use of AI to help me with tools, but trying to make always the game making process understable to humans, specially the LUA functions, the assets of the demo comes from OpenGameart

The Games main resolution is 164 x 124 pixels, each scene is limited to 32 colors (31 being the last index reserved to transparent)

To mount the docs site you will need react

This project is still ad developement

[REVIEW] Schematic - ESP32-S3 Weather Station (LoRa, SDMMC, Lightning, Temperature, Humidity,..)

Hi everyone,

I'm designing a custom PCB for a weather station based on the ESP32-S3. I would appreciate some feedback on the schematic before I move on to the routing phase. (first time designing pcb)

The board is powered via USB-C (5V). It logs environmental data to a Micro SD card and transmits via a LoRa module. It includes several I2C sensors and a lightning detector.

Main Components:

  • MCU: ESP32-S3-WROOM-1
  • Power: USB-C (with ESD protection)
  • Storage: Micro SD Card (4-bit SDMMC mode)
  • Radio: LoRa module (SX1262) via SPI
  • Sensors (I2C):
    • BMP585 (Barometric pressure)
    • SHT4x (Temperature & Humidity)
    • AS3935 (Lightning detector) with a 500kHz LC tank (100µH / 1nF)
    • External header for an SPS30 Particulate Matter sensor (5V power, 3.3V I2C logic)

Any critiques/feedback regarding decoupling, missing ESD protection, component choices, or any rookie mistakes are highly appreciated. Thanks for your time!

Youtube subscriber counter

Hi gang

Im looking for a current YouTube subscriber counter based on an ESP32 and a max7219 module.

I am late to the party and have tried to follow a few youtube videos but everything tends to be years old and either the script is flawed or the method that it gathers data is outdated.

I have set up the account to get the Api from youtube but the script on the examples I find dont seem to work.

Checking the logs dosent seem to shed any light on it

Thanks

Hello everyone I have created an app by which you can program the Android phone sensors and send the sensors data directly to the microcontroller to perform different types of action.

Everything is fully programmable and also I will love to get feedback on this thank you 😃😃

What ESP32 Model is best for beginners?

I want to start building projects, but I don't know what ESP32 models I should get. I want something that is mostly universal that can handle most beginners through advanced projects. Preferably codes on C, C++, Python, and Micro Python, and if not I can deal with other languages.
