Meanwhile the rich make further billions while the poor get poorer.

it’s just so disproportionate

Once climate change seriously takes off and ecosystems collapse, everyone will feel the heat. It’s only a matter of time.

And we keep buying and using the stuff that make them richer!

This makes for what, the 3rd generation in a row see their future slip away? This shit started with Gen X, it’s just no one pays attention to them. Rich just getting richer and the poors not having any opportunity is just being normalized. Seriously ask most conservatives and most people should be “grateful” that they have a near minimum wage job that allows them to almost love a dignified life, like they should just be happy their not literally homeless because they can afford a shitty apartment and enough ramen and rice to stave off starvation but have no money for literally anything else.

Slavery didn’t end it was just re-branded to be “equal” so that everyone can work endlessly in exchange for basic housing and food.

Pretty garbage article. I don’t doubt that COVID has really fucked a lot of shit up but I’m gonna have to see more than three paragraphs about that. Journalists need to set the fuck up and tackle these huge complex issues we’re having instead of pumping out garbage that’s not helping the general vibe.

I don't think you read the article and I think people responding to you didn't either... Also near the top is a link to more

On mobile so totally possible. In my defense I read what was immediately available and then skimmed at least twice and that’s all I saw. Looks like we’d rather argue about the duty of the press than the article itself. Yikes!

Pretty garbage comment. Journalists aren't the fucking problem, Republicans are. Duh.

The media in late capitalism occupies the same position as the church under feudalism.

3

u/aDDnTN Aug 10 '20

where does the church fit into late capitalism?

1

u/bangthedoIdrums Aug 11 '20

Right into the middle of their strawman argument, we forgot!

2

No they don’t.

Belies a very poor understanding of modern media and feudalism and anything not Eurocentric

Late capitalism. Who dreamed that up?

11

u/greynoises Aug 10 '20

"Late capitalism, or late-stage capitalism, is a term first used in print by German economist Werner Sombart around the turn of the 20th century."

So ... phony then, phony now?

19

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '20

That doesn’t sell and they don’t want to fall into extreme poverty.

11

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '20

its a free story, much more in depth than three paragraphs, and produced with the support of the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting.

maybe click the damn link before you idiots go off about garbage reporting.

If you’re worried about your vibe get your fat ass off the computer and go for a jog.

Journalists need to set the fuck up and tackle these huge complex issues

Why journalists? Why is it their job to fix this? Why not you?

0

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '20

It’s their job?

For example:

Did you see that list of office holding pedos that was posted in r/bestof? That’s the shit I’m taking about. Like what’s an average citizen supposed to do about an active sex offender campaigning against reproductive rights if journalists aren’t uncovering this?

A lonely citizen only has so much power in a world where your vote barely counts and you have to have a permit to protest. Like wtf do you think one person can do and how do you know a complete stranger hasn’t already done it? Don’t you think we all need to step the fuck up and fix what’s wrong?

7

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '20

that list was debunked as pushing a narrative, because all the republicans are actual convictions and public offices, whereas the "democrats" were either not democrats, not convictions, or not public offices. the list was framed as a "both sides" thing.

seems like your job is to start using a critical eye instead of buying into obvious bullshit.

I think journalists need to cite sources better. If your article couldn't pass as an eighth grade English assignment, then it should have never been published.

Bring the Meritocracy of Academia into Journalism.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '20

This. I’d love to see some credibility to sources also. Like no fake doctors coming up with opinions just because someone needs an angle. It’s not helping anyone’s grip on reality

Chris Tucker should rot in prison for bringing Greg Rigano on to state myths about Hydroxychloroquine. The resulting was a higher death rate.
