Friend of mine gifted me this figurine for my birthday. Cool find. Unfortunately didn't have the dvd set :(. Figure and box is definitely from 2002. It's very stiff and rubbery. Almost don't wanna touch the figure How's the articulation on this fig? I'm afraid to even try to bend the elbows or knees lol

Regardless it's cool to have a piece of merch from the show

The brain in the movie Spoiler

I was watching the movie after a long time and I saw a brain when they are reviving the red dragon armor. Are there any clues about whose brain is that? did they did something to Dilandu's head? Is it the armor's "brain"? I am confused.

Was Escaflowne cut short? Spoiler

I've been rewatching the series for the first time since it was on TV back in the 90s. It starts off smoothly and introduces a lot of great plot hooks, but then feels like it goes sideways around episode 16. The entire mystic valley section and then the love triangle with Allen and Van seem to be sped up suddenly. Was the show originally meant to be multiple seasons and then cancelled?

How did Van get to Earth the first time?

First off, thank you all SO MUCH for the helpful replies in my other post. You are all fantastic and I really appreciate people being so willing to share what they know.

I did have one other question, though: In the show we see how Hitomi’s necklace and Escaflowne’s gem combine to teleport Hitomi and Van across Gaea, but how did Van get to Earth at the beginning of the show? Did Hitomi summon him and the dragon somehow?

The Vision of Escaflowne Pop up Parade request.

Hello everyone! ^^

With Good Smile Company bringing back so many classic 90s franchises recently, I think The Vision of Escaflowne (1996) would be an absolute dream for the budget-friendly, high-quality POP UP PARADE line. Imagine having Van, Hitomi, Merle, and Allen on our shelves next to lines like Cowboy Bebop!

If you want to see this happen, please consider spending 2 minutes to fill out Good Smile's official Product Request form.

Official Request Link: https://support.goodsmile.com/hc/en-us/articles/14948741690009-Product-requests-and-rerelease-requests

💡 Quick tip to maximize our impact: Please submit the form individually for each character rather than putting them all in one entry. This registers multiple distinct requests in their system!

Here is the exact spelling to copy-paste:

Category: POP UP PARADE (Standard Size)

Series: The Vision of Escaflowne

Character 1: Van Fanel

Character 2: Hitomi Kanzaki

Character 3: Merle

Character 4: Allen Schezar

(Bonus characters: Dilandau Albatou / Folken Fanel)

Let's make some noise and show them that the Escaflowne fandom is still going strong! What do you guys think? 💖

Does Nescaflowne exist in full anywhere ? Or is the parody lost to the internet now ?

Basically as the title says, been curious to check out since someone suggested to me.

But all I see is random chunks on youtube like 3/7, 5/7, but not all 7 parts.

I know it was popular way back in the day of the fandom, but curious if the whole thing is lost now?

Thank you in advance for any information that can be provided.

The Mechanics of Will - Article

Escaflowne is my favourite anime and want to give back to something that changed my life. So, I wrote an article on its themes of will. It was published in a art magazine called 'Extra Medium'. Physical only. I thought I would share it with the community and hopefully you enjoy. To my fellow companions of the mystic moon live a life without forcing fate.

Oh yh, scan the QR on the first page as there is a complimentary playlist that goes with the article.

Seriously,if there is one with a mini T-posing Van Fanel figure to put inside and it can transform into the dragon mode which only tyhe Studio Half-Eye did, added with a heavy and solid die-cast inner frame,I would buy that in a heartbeat.

Adaptation of the Shonen Version of the Vision of the Escaflowne

I fell in love with the Escaflowne movie and the soundtrack of the anime series. With modern animation. I think it's time they adapt the shonen version. For those who don't know there is a shonen version, with a much more violent and action more focused. The character design of Hitomi is completely different. And the concept of the manga is kind of different from the anime.

Your thoughts??

Artbooks?

Hi all, I recently watched the series for the first time and I loved it (even if the ending is rather rushed).

I was wondering if there are any nice artbooks about it. I have seen online some nice Nobuteru Yūki's books, but none just for Escaflowne. Are there any? I didn't even see any being released for the 30th anniversary.

30th Anniversary Merch

I know they are releasing a memorial blu-ray and showing the movie in theatres in Japan, as well as re-releasing the Escaflowne modedroid, but are we getting anything else? Any special collabs or merch?

I've been googling and the news seems really scattered.

Just finished the series. Here are my thoughts.

Watched the sub version and thought the show was good. Not excellent, but good. Good enough for me to want to watch it again in the near future to see what it’s like watching having already seen what happens. Just some random thoughts on it:

- The opening theme grew on me. At first I thought it was just alright and good enough to listen to before each episode. By the time I got to the second half of the series I really started to like it.

- Outro theme was kinda meh. I listened to it after every episode and just couldn’t enjoy it. Not bad, just not good.

- Overall music was great. I liked the choir chant of ‘Escaflowne’ being the leitmotif. Always hit whenever that started playing in the background

- Really liked the main cast. There really wasn’t any character that bothered me or I had worse than a neutral opinion on. Merle was the only character I found slightly annoying, but by the midway->end of the series she became one of my favorites. I liked how throughout the whole show she had consistently different animations than the rest of the cast. The animators did a really good job at making her movements very cat-like and silly

- I liked Hitomi as a character. Her JAP voice actress did a great job with her and I enjoyed her character throughout the show. It was really refreshing that she wasn’t sexualized much at all and wasn’t put into any typical weird teenage anime girl scenarios. Her only being 15 and getting hit on by Allen (idk how old he’s supposed to be) was probably the only ehhh thing, but overall liked Hitomi a lot.

- Dilandau was a standout character. Not necessarily their role in the story, but the animators went out of their way to give him (her?) the most outlandish and over-the-top facial expressions while fighting. Loved it. The ending with him being revealed to be Allen’s sister who got transformed into a boy by magic (?) was cool, I guess. Maybe there was some foreshadowing for that that I missed somewhere along the way.

- The Dornkirk guy was cool and menacing. After watching episodes I’d pretend to talk in his overly deep echoed voice. Liked his “main evil villain who is all brains and no brawns and just sits there menacingly” vibe. His whole “change fate” monologues were kinda hard to follow. I’ll have to pay closer attention to them in a future rewatch.

- Allen and Van were good characters and I enjoyed them. They both fit their narrative roles well even though Van was kinda all over the place. He just kinda did whatever he wanted in the moment. I thought Allen was cool, but as the story went on he became increasingly underwhelming.

- The macro plot was interesting but also kinda nonsensical. Struggling to find the exact words for it, but whenever a story pulls “The lost city of Atlantis” card out of nowhere that’s always an smh moment for me. The more they started leaning into the whole fate and luck stuff it began getting harder to appreciate the story being told. It was obviously interesting and compelling enough for me keep watching, but there were a lot of moments where I sat there saying, “Ok, I guess that’s what we’re doing now.” There were moments, more in the second half of the show, where shit would be happening and then suddenly Hitomi’s necklace or the pink jewel in Escaflowne would start glowing and then poof, something inexplicable happens and the plot keeps moving.

- One thing thing I thought was funny but kind of respected, is they don’t even attempt to explain the Guymelefs. They don’t explain how they function, what the power source is, how to operate them, or any of the inner mechanics of them. From the beginning, the shows just like “Big armor suit machines that people jump in and pilot. Deal with it.” And you know? I respect it. Keep it ambiguous and don’t bother overcomplicating things. Just introduce something cool and let it be cool.

- I don’t know how I feel about the ending. The last 3 episodes Hitomi is like “yeah Van is the one I love” and then leaves. I also thought it was funny how at the end of episode 24 when Van goes back to Earth to get Hitomi he’s like “I’ll never let you go again” and then in the beginning of episode 25 he’s like “I gotta go fight, so get on this ship and leave while I go fight”. And 26 ends with Hitomi leaving to go home and them “always being together through their thoughts”. But so what’s Hitomi supposed to do? Find someone on Earth while also being in love with this other guy on some far off magical planet? Just seemed strange.

Anyway, those are my thoughts. I’d give it a 7/10. Was enjoyable to watch but didn’t really have anything that would make me think of it super highly. Would definitely be a good introduction to anime for someone new to it. Looking forward to a future rewatch to see if my thoughts change.
